They are most commonly utilized in gondola shelving as barcode, UPC, and price stickers are applied to the chips and then snapped in to the price channels. This allows for protection of the racks and shelving because the adhesive from labels and stickers are not applied directly to the gondolas, but rather onto the chip and when they need to be altered or replaced, store employees can simply pop the chip out, dispose of it, and replace it with a new chip.
