Good product, works as advertised, but can be hard to read if you use it in a 5-gallon jug. The curvature of the glass-jug prevents seeing the level clearly. Most folks will be using this in a 5-gallon jug. But if used in a different container, it probably would have worked better for me.

First of all, I was asked about the flavor of this item! It does not have one, fortunately. The instruction quality was a bit unclear, and it may or may not make a great gift. Giving one of these to a brewer might seem a bit like giving a wrench to a mechanic. I would make sure that this is something that they need first. If it is a novice brewer, then this would make a good gift, but make sure that you also include a plastic test cylinder!The device works, and gives a fairly good estimate on alcohol content. It is a good idea to buy two of these, because they feel breakable. Peace of mind is worth a few extra dollars. It is important to buy a test cylinder, and I prefer the ones made of plastic. This device has been a game changer in my kombucha brewing. Kombucha can have a wide range of alcohol content, so it is best to have a good estimate of the exact amount.

This is a necessary item if you want to get involved in the home brewing hobby. With this you can accurately measure your starting specific gravity and calculate your potential alcohol content.

Unsure concerning accuracy. It reads lower than my initial hydrometer by .002 - .004. Will compare with 3rd device and provide update. Container and device look straight forward
