One end does the gauging and the other end indicates the thickness or diameter. Three different calipers in each set are shaped for any turning application. 8" set.

Handy tools for measuring wall thickness of lathe turned bowls. I appreciate the three varying designs as one of the three will usually get into difficult areas inside a bowl. I notice the calipers have a thin layer of grease on them which I assume is to delay surface rust from forming. I live near the ocean and the air quickly degrades most metal surfaces. The grease is a bit uncomfortable and blocks easy opening and closing of the jaws, but I'll leave it on. If you live in the desert, you can probably wipe it off.

They’re not precision micrometer spec tools, but they’re not intended to be. Well made, and a great value for what I intend on using them for, checking the wall thickness of my Woodturning hollow forms.

I was worried when I got these about how well they'd keep their measurements because there was no wing nut to keep them tightened. I don't know if they'll get loose down the road, but right now they good their measurements good and firm.

These calipers are perfect for working with live edge slabs, to measure thickness before and after planing. Smaller machinist calipers don’t reach far enough toward the middle of the slab like these do. Happy customer.

These are pretty nice. the edges, not the points, are not finished in any way so they are sharp all over. maybe ill hit them with some emory cloth. the joint is quite stiff which is good. i wish one set came with a blunted point so you could close on the wood without having to worry about scoring it.
