I was pleasantly surprised to discover this device works out of the box. My OS is Linux Mint and I often have problems connecting to Windows oriented gadgets. I had no need to install software. I plugged it in and it booted at once, allowing me to back up all important files on an old hard drive. Happy I bought it.

I love the way that this device works and more specifically, its form factor. It is sturdy, includes a 4 pin molex power connector, and is easy to set up and use with or without the included power supply. I was able to save my old hard drive by powering it up externally and transferring the data to a new drive with this adapter. It was well worth every penny. I have not used the one-touch backup button yet, but I have already gotten so much utility out of this thing that I don't know that it could be any better for the price.

Works flawlessly — excellent way to retrieve data from an old hard drive!Amazon — your driver left the package at the wrong address. You NEED to make it easier to report delivery issues like that. Fortunately, my neighbor is trustworthy but you need to make it easy to report ‘wrong delivery location’.

Several companies make these extremely convenient little gadgets, which basically turn an internal hard drive into an external USB drive. Great for a variety of computer maintenance tasks, such as backing up data, restoring data, and rescuing data from a computer that has failed. Also the very best way to run a security scan on a system one suspects of being infected with malware, because most of the tricks malware uses to avoid detection won't work if the scan is done from a known-clean computer that did not boot from the suspect disk.

Unit failed while backing up 8 Tb to 12 TB drive. Called vendor, who immediately shipped out another unit. Second unit successfully completed four additional 8 TB to 12 TB drive backups. This product is the best I ever used, and the customer service at Cables Online is outstanding.

Worked ok for a backup but I was expecting a usb drive like I have from Western Digital or Seagate. The drive would appear ready to access in normal Window based access. Not a custom program.

Worked for pulling data off old drives. I disposed of two old PCs but kept the (IDE) hard drives and wanted some of the data from them. This adapter worked perfect for that. Pulled data off a newer (SATA) drive as well after I built a new PC. Windows 7. Definitely a worthy purchase!

No reconoce discos SATA III (Los mas habituales hoy en dia). Acquistato per recuperare dati da vecchi HDD, funziona egregiamente sia sui vecchi IDE che sui nuovi SATA. Sulle istruzioni per gli IDE viene richiesto il collegamento a PC spento ma a me ha riconosciuto gli HDD plug&play collegando solo il cavo USB, fornito in dotazione, che appare ben dimensionato e di qualità . Ha fatto funzionare perfettamente un masterizzatore Pioneer IDE non più riconosciuto dal sistema che utilizza AHCI. L'alimentatore come speravo ha la spina con i contatti tondi e non quelli piatti inglesi mostrati nella foto.Dei led indicano l'attività della porta utilizzata. Non ho installato i driver del dispositivo forniti sul piccolo CD allegato e non ho usato la funzione di back-up, quindi non posso dire nulla in merito.
