These are very heavy and solid but they are not completely all one piece. The 1/4 inch on the outside is glued on, it sounds like it would be a problem but you would never know if you don't look really close.Can be painted and with a little sanding and primer can be stained. Red oak so does need primer to stain correctly.

They will need to be fine sanded but came in well wrapped and exactly as discrobed.

They are very nice red oak newel posts. Recently built a bannister with 3 of them. Would recommend.

We are in the process of building a new staircase the big department store did not have the look we were going for, so we decided to order these on amazon. We did have our paint black, but the natural wood look was beautiful also when they arrived. Would order again!
