I had to buy this to go with my purchase of the I do NOT regret it at all. I have even recently moved and my wife did the the packing on some of my "home brew" stuff. I was afraid it was a lost cost.I was unpacking one of the boxes the other day and there this beauty sat just as clear as the day she was packed. The glass is solid, if it had been anything but solid I'd be buying a new one right now.It may not take a beating but it sure handled the hurried stress of our relocation.

This works perfectly for testing alcohol percentage. It's tall to fit the hydrometer in and thin enough not to require a lot of alcohol to be able to test as it would if you were using a bottle or something similar. Do not drop the hydrometer into the jar! I've read a few comments that said the jar broke when dropping a hydrometer into it. That's not how to properly test anyway. Slowly lower the hydrometer into the jar of alcohol, gently push it down a little then release it. It will float back up to it's proper measurement. If you insert the hydrometer into an empty jar, hold the jar side ways and insert the hydrometer until it touches the bottom, then turn the jar back up right.

It works for what it's designed to do. I accidentally bumped it and it tipped over and shattered. It didn't fall off the table or anything, but the glass is very fragile. The base could be a bit wider to avoid the odd bump or brush from knocking it over and breaking it.

Arrived with no cracks or breaks. The base seems a little small for the tube and as a result the tube sits up a little raised from the bottom, but it does seem pretty secure so maybe it's supposed to be like that. When I received this, it was sold and shipped by Hobby Homebrew directly, and while there was a snafu with the item that was sent and the return process (due to an error on my part on the latter), they were very quick to resolve the issue on messaging. Much appreciated.

Glass construction stands up to high proof liquids. Plastic base is detachable for cleaning or storage. Breaks easily (I've wrecked a couple so far), so make sure you store it in a safe location.

OK, this fine, amazing product, or the pieces that were delivered, were packaged in a polymer container. I wonder if they weren't packed in a bubble wrapped polymer container, I would have only gotten a single piece, of this fragile borosilicate test vessel. Alas, the UPS delivery driver said he would return all the parts to the shipper!BEWARE!! Check other customer's reviews.

It's a glass tube with a plastic base. You pour either homemade beer or wine into the tube while it's fermenting and with a hygrometer, you can judge the alcoholic content of your creation! You can't use a hygrometer without this tube and I looked at every tube on Amazon before I decided on this one!
