This was ordered to satisfy code requiring backflow prevention between the copper house water lines and an outdoor PVC sprinkler system. The existing connection had two serial soldered-in shut-off valves, but there was no check valve/backflow prevention and one of the shutoff valves (a ball valve) had developed a slight leak through its stem. This heavy duty brass backflow preventer bot only satisfied the need for serial backflow prevention, but the build-in pipe threaded brass unions made installation fast and easy- plus any future maintenance will be easy now.Summary- this is a very high quality well built brass valve with matching heavy duty pipe threaded union connections.

I searched Amazon for Watts D9-M3, this came up looking exactly like the Watts unit I need to replace. Foolishly I didn’t look carefully enough to realize it’s a Chinese knock-off. Actually a very nice looking one. But it’s getting returned in favor of the real thing, US built and perhaps longer lasting.

I added this to my yard pump in a shallow well that only feeds the garden. I probably could have got one without the overpressure vent, but I do like that this keeps the prime on the system, there's also a foot valve but I don't rely on those necessarily. This means I can water the garden from the yard well without having to reprime it, and I'm not worried about the water in the system draining back down into the well.

the description says "replacement for Watts" but as far as i can tell this doesn't have the same product approvals. i received a dual-check valve with average fit & finish. the valve has gasket unions for 1/2NPT on the inlet and outlet, and a simple threaded outlet on the vent. the information plate on the valve indicates 210F max temperature & 175 PSI max pressure, and notes a model number of 190T012, not the expected "F9D-M3" — i have no idea whats up with that.the valve appears fit in the space where my watts valve is, but the information sticker on the old Watts valve says "ASSE 1012", "NYC BSA 104-75-SM" and "CSA B64" on it; there's no mention of any approvals on the new valve. i don't feel confident installing a device like this without the appropriate approval mark.
