This is about 4 1/2" wide, and it's much larger than I thought it would be, not just wide, but also almost 2 inches depth of filter. The filter looks like a small automotive air cleaner, from the old carbureted cars.As it has been established, pleated paper is the best filter media, as it can collect many years worth of dirt, and not lose a significant amount of airflow (unlike foam or felt, which don't have the folds, and they have much less surface area, because they don't have the pleated folds).I really think this is a filter that you will never need to service. You can install it, and never look at it again. It's a very durable, high quality filter, which looks like it's directly from an engine.WHY YOU SHOULD NOT BUY THE CHEAP VERSIONS OF THIS FOR $12! Read below!I tried one of the $12 versions of this filter, and although they looked nice, they were only about 1/2 the size of this filter (much smaller filter) and the glue in the cheap filter was a white crusty glue that actually started falling apart and flaking off. This Solberg doesn't have the white glue on the filter, it has a typical paper filter with the molded rubber end caps that seal up tightly into the metal covers. The rubber is not a glue, it's actually a molded rubber that forms the end caps of the filter. This is a big relief to find a filter that won't fall apart, and is large enough that it won't really ever need to be cleaned or serviced (unless you're using it next to your grinder or wood shop).I'd recommend using teflon paste on the threads, then a 1/2" NPT electrical lock nut from a 1/2" EMT fitting with 1/2" NPT threads from the hardware store, to lock the filter into position, so it can't rattle or unscrew. You could tighten the filter super tight, but then you risk ruining the threads or breaking the aluminum cylinder head on your compressor, and thread locker isn't going to work good on the really high heat on the compressor. Using the lock nut will assure that you can use the nut as a jam nut, to maintain the filter tight, without risking damage to your compressor.

This seems constructed well and replaced my original on that got damaged when the compressor fell over. Much better than the original.

Bought two of these to replace cheap OEM filters on a Kobalt compressor. More filter area, quieter, easy to find elements and same cost.

Made a huge difference with noise reduction

Looks like it was made just for my Dewalt DXCM251. The factory filter looks like a bad joke compared to this simple upgrade.

Quality product that fit perfectly. I bought this due to the better air filtration of this cleaner over my stock one and that the cost of filter replacement will be cheaper. Only decreased the decibel by 1 from 80 to 79.It did however changed the running tone of my compressor to a more deeper sound wich is better. It also shortened the empty to full time of my 30 gal compressor by 18 seconds. I took of 1 star for the claim of higher noise canceling, which this did not really due in my application.

My little 2 gallon Craftsman sounded like a freight train in my garage. Tossed that little air filter and installed this one and it cut the volume in probably near half! I had to use a brass fitting to get this one to fit, but that was a simple fix. I can finally run my compressor without the neighbors calling the police on me for being a public nuisance. Glad I got and highly recommend.
