It comes with 12 total, two of each of the colors you see in my photo. The sharpener works well. Keep in mind that it's an "open" style sharpener - nothing to catch the bits. Still, a very cool feature to include! I tested each color and some are more pigmented than others. I did notice a slight "waxy" feel upon the first use of each color. It seemed to rub off as I scribbled, so it might just be a protective thing. To be clear, the waxy feeling was on the color tip (as opposed to the part you hold)...almost like a crayon. Overall, I love these and they will be perfect for each kid to feel a sense of ownership. It's also a great way to encourage them to take care of their items since they'll need to sharpen the color if they want to keep using it - rather than use it down and swap it for another pencil, leaving someone else to sharpen their discarded pencil.

These are individual kits of colored pencils, with sharpeners, in colorful cylinders, making them perfect for handing out in a workshop or small group situation, to take traveling, or to offer at an art themed party. As an art teacher, I usually buy in bulk in order to get the best price for the quantity, but for any of these more individualized situations I think these would be great fun.
