I used to wrestle a 38-40 lb., 6 gallon gas can to fill my mower. With difficulty, I would transfer gas from the 40 lb., 6 gallon can to 1 gallon cans to make it easier to fill small engines. This fuel caddy will weigh roughly 78-80 pounds when full. At 75 I could still manage the weight if needed, but transferring the gas to smaller containers or to small motors is extremely easy with this fuel caddy. Now, I bring home fuel in my 6 gallon can and use the reverse (suction) feature to draw the fuel from the 6 gallon can into the caddy effortlessly and without spillage. The only feature that might have been added is an opaque line to show when the tank is getting full, but I recommend this fuel caddy to anyone tired of spilling fuel because the fuel needs to be transferred to smaller, more manageable containers.

Just used it for the first time and works great. Maybe I will buy another for the other shed.

Having a larger transfer tank that works would have been nice. I like that this unit I ordered had the tank, pump, hose, nozzle and is a all in one solution. However, the pump nozzle sticks in the open position and this is a significant safety concern. The second issue is the connection for the grounding wire to the transfer pump was/is poor quality. I see some folks replaced the pump hose and nozzle but for the price I think the vendor should just recall or offer an upgraded nozzle that does not stick open or leak!

The unit without the pump, ends up being a 13 gallon fuel container with wheels. For the $135 pricetag, there's simply no value in spending such a large amount for fuel storage. It's possible to get four 5-gal fuel containers for $80, and have 20 total gallons of flexible storage. 5 gal of fuel is heavy enough, this 13 gal unit would weigh over 100lbs when filled!I say spend $80 for the 5 gallon units, then buy an electric pump made for them, and pocket the $10 to $20 savings over going this 13-gal route. Even this unit that includes the pump is over-priced for whatcha get...

advertised 13 gallon, manual says 12.5 gallon. needs hose to go from handle or unit hose to tank you are draining for reverse fill, i happen to have something to make work. no apparent auto shut off if you are reverse filling so I laid tank flat and watched closely. It filled fairly quick and it was nice not having to suck on the gas hose! Hopefully the hoses and components will last several years. unit came in with dent in upper corner of tank but wasnรขโฌโขt compromised.

As you can see from my photos. The first one shows you what this container takes up the same amount of space as two 5 gallon containers. I can't tell you how frustrating it was using those 5 gallon containers. First off they are heavy when full of fuel. The nozzle design is a challenge because you have to drop the spout into the fuel intake hole while at the same time catching that little hook to compress the nozzle so it starts to flow. Invariably, you want to avoid and overflow so you stop to look down in the tank you are filling, and then have to precariously align the spout again, compressing with that tab. I wound up more often than not overflowing the tank, and spilling gas down the side of my John Deere tractor. The beauty of this fuel caddy though is that it flows in two different directions. You just select the toggle switch to forward or reverse, and it gobbles up 3.7 gallons per minute; it's amazing how effortlessly, and quickly it works. In the second photo you can see the removable cap allowing you to dump fuel into the tank, but why bother with that when you can simply reverse the flow? You unscrew the fuel nozzle exposing the bare tube, drop it down inside of for example your 5 gallon container, and it draws the fuel right out filling this new 13 gallon portable. Be sure and loosen this cap a little bit when running the unit in reverse because that removes the pressure from forming inside of that tank resulting in some reverse flow when you are done. The third photo is of the bare nozzle not screwed onto the filler hose. Which is one feature I wish this portable fuel caddy had in that it senses when the tank you are filling is full and automatically stops the flow much like the gas station pumps do. Anyhow, not a biggee because the metal hose size is small enough you can peer down into the tank while it is filling. It worked great even the first time I was using it.If you have a truck, you can place this whole 13-gallon container in your bed, it even has wheels. For me with a passenger vehicle I enjoy filling the two 5-gallon containers which are each individually easier to move and using the reverse feature to quickly transfer the fuel into the 13.I tried using a 12-volt battery backup to run this 12V DC and it didn't work. However, using a set of jumper cables connecting it to my sit-down lawnmower 12-volt battery worked in a snap. Overall, it is a 5 star piece of equipment that I am looking forward to enjoying for a long period of time.
