What Is a Throttle Body?

The throttle body of your vehicle is basically a butterfly valve. It is usually located anywhere between the intake manifold and the air intake filter. The core function of the throttle body is to regulate and control the amount of air that is allowed to enter the engine.

This is regulated by the information that determines how much combustion is required inside the engine and how much air will be required for that combustion. The input data is sensed from the pressure that the driver applies on the throttle of the vehicle. The stronger pressure on the gas pedal, the more air that enters the engine system.

Where Is the Throttle Body Located?

Typically, in most vehicles, the throttle body can be found in between the intake manifold and the air filter or air cleaner of the engine system.

The location of the throttle body can be a little different for different vehicles. However, according to the purpose of the throttle body, it should be located anywhere between the air filter and the intake manifold.

Signs of a Bad Throttle Body

A bad throttle body valve can cause a lot of different symptoms in your vehicle. Here is a list of the most common ones:

a

1.Rough Idling

If you notice your car’s engine stays between 500 to 100 RPM and the engine vibrates frequently, it may be due to a dirty throttle body. To fix the situation, you can get your car’s throttle body serviced and the engine vibration will go away.

I swapped this in for the original part to correct a low power mode issue p1518 that ended up being a broken wire. I kept this part thinking it might improve performance since the original part was 20 years old. Last month I had a new error code p1516. I still had the original part in a box so I swapped it back and the error code went away. If the seller replaces it under warranty I will gladly raise my review score.Update - seller was unwilling to provide any warranty. If a failure rate of less than 1 year is acceptable on a part that can cripple your vehicle and leave you stranded I would recommend you look elsewhere.

If your GM vehicle is going into limp mode, then this might fix it. Autozone scan said i needed this replaced when it gave the throttle body code for check engine light. Replaced in about an hour and everything is normal again. I hated “limp mode”. Lol

Good value for the money. It has been installed for 4 days and hasn't had an issue nor engine code. Will update if anything comes up. Doesn't come with O-ring.

i know its early, just 2 days after, but item worked perfect for me. Once my ecm calibrated for the new throttle body everything was great!!! I ended up buying the warrantee on it just in case it goes bad on me in the next 3 years. Cheap insurance. I am pleased, saved at least $300 by doing it myself in parts savings and shop labor.

Installed on the truck in August and after a month it has went bad. Thought maybe it was my pedal position sensor because this part was brand new. Turns out I just got a bad part.
