Works exactly as described. Pretty easy to install. Only critique is the locking pin is challenging to insert properly. Built pretty sturdy - Seems like it should last a few years.

some basic instructions would have been nice. Other makes give basic instructions such as fixed end should be on the bottom

Very easy to install with a nice black finish. Watch out! Be careful not to over tighten the screws and stripping them if you are installing a a vinyl fence. If it is wooden fence you are installing on then you shouldn't worry. Also watch out and keep in mind that this spring "PUSHES" the door closed. It doesn't pull the door closed. So it needs to be mounted on the whichever side swings out so the spring can "push" it closed.

This spring uses a small metal cylinder that you insert in the side of the top end of the spring to keep tension. That cylinder has a very loose and shallow fit in the hole. It looks to be a significant danger of failing in a way that will shoot the cylinder out as a projectile. I would not allow this spring to be anywhere near where my kids play.This was a wasted purchase - I just threw it in the trash. I found another spring that uses a flat metal piece that sits up against one of the sides of the head to keep the tension. This is a much safer design.
