Nail for rotting out tree trunks - Try them out!

First, let me say that the tree stump that I’m attempting to kill is mesquite, which is a very hard wood; if you’re working with softer wood you might have a different experience. I had never heard of using copper nails to kill a tree stump so, before ordering these I googled it and found a few legitimate websites that say it does work. According to what I read, to get more copper exposure to the wood, you should drive the nails all the way into the stump and that’s where I had a problem. The instructions showed the coppers nails only half way in the wood, that must be because you have to pre drill the holes with the included drill bit and that bit is only half as long as the nails. The nails hammered in well until they reached the bottom of the hole then they all started to bend. I ordered a 1/8”X5” drill bit, thinking that would allow me to drill a deeper hole. I was careful not to put too much pressure on the drill so I wouldn’t break the bit but I probably shouldn’t have ordered a cheap drill bit because it did break. I’ll continue to drive the nails in half way and hope for the best.

Just be careful, the nails are soft. I suggest drilling holes first. But really works over time.

I won't know for a while how effective these copper nails are to rot a tree stump, but it's worth a try. This is environmentally friendly way to do it.I like the functionality, easy to use because the drill bit is included. Fair value for the price. Recommended.

I have multiple trees that I want to get rid of. One Tree in particular is growing right at the edge of my concrete sidewalk so I would have an issue if I wanted to rent a stump grinder to get rid of it. I like using more natural products to get rid of issues so I thought I would give these copper nails a try. In order to use you need to drill various holes in the tree stump and then insert these nails. I have had these nails installed in the tree stump for about a week and I'm not sure how long I need to leave these installed before the tree stump dies? So far the tree stump is still alive so I can't really comment at this time if these nails are going to get rid of my tree stump. I guess time will tell if these nails work or not. The reason for my 5 stars is because these are a natural solution and if they don't work for the intended purpose of stump decay then I can always use strictly for nailing copper material.

I can't speak to how well these work yet. I have a stump in my front yard that keeps trying come back up from under the ground and I didn't even know these were a thing (or that you could use copper this way) until I came across the listing.I will speak to the nails themselves, though. They are pretty thick and sturdy and as far as I can tell, made of real copper. They survived being pounded into the tree stump (despite copper being a fairly soft metal) and now I'm just waiting to see if the results are as advertised. I will update my review when/if it becomes obvious that they worked as advertised. As to the product, the quality is there. A copper nail is a copper nail, I suppose. These are fine.
