I bought a low power cb and coupled it with a short antenna. I have no range. Although it works for me, as I am usually near to the radio I'm communicating with, I can't imagine that it would be useful for anyone else. I think that the biggest problem is the inexpensive, low power cb. I imagine that the short antenna doesn't help the situation.

I saw a lot of reviews regarding the antenna and how many folks had SWRs off the chart (passed infinity). I was one of them. I did my research, installed a ground wire from the inside of the antenna mount to the frame. I then drove to an open parking lot with pliers and a wire cutter....started SWR testing (my Cobra 75 has one built in) and started cutting. They all recommend cutting 1/8 of an inch each time. I gave up on that idea and cut 5-6 inch sections until the SWR was readable (inbetween 3 and Inf). You'll see how much wire I cut in the pic. Once I started getting a reading, I started cutting about a half inch each time, then down to a quarter and down to an eighth until I got the reading of 1 for Channel 1 and just under 2 for channel 40. Channel 19 was at 1.3 ish. It took a while but it can be done. I, like everyone else, will throw caution to not to cut too much or there is no recovery if you do. All in all, I give it four stars since you have to do research, have lots of patience, and determination to get it done right. UPDATE: I wasn't getting a good connection in order to reach anyone. I just ordered a Firestik II as a replacement and it worked like a charm. I used my dremel to slice 1/8 from the top as well as the bottom of the manual screw and I'm as less than 1 SWR on Channel 1 and 1.3 on Channel 40. Should have bought the Firestik first.

Tried to match this with a Bearcat 980. I thought I was having issues with the mount or the wire because the SWR was pegging out at 9.0 on all channels even with trimming. after triple checking everything else for direct ground, tried a new antenna and that got it.

I purchased this antenna to replace my aftermarket FM/AM Radio antenna that got damaged and corroded in the middle. I use this antenna ONLY as my FM/AM radio antenna, not CB antenna. For this "receiving only" situation it works perfectly! I can not attest to a "transmitting situation" and do not know what the RF would be. The antenna was the cheapest priced antenna i could find while keeping quality up. It is skinnier than i thought it would be, which is always a plus, and it has quite a bit of flex to it. I gave the durability rating a 4 star only because i do not know how it will hold up yet as i only just installed it. I did flex it a bunch before installing it and the coating and Fiberglass rod seem to be of good quality, something that was lacking on my other (non name brand) antenna. So far, i am a very happy customer. I would recommend this product!

I had an old CB radio laying around I wanted to put in my truck. I still has the mount and old fiberglass antenna but they were faded and rusty. I ordered this antenna and an external mount for my truck as well as some coax to get it all the way into my cab. I reused my old coax connector on my antenna to start with. I was having issues so I ordered a swr meter that was reading 7, way too high. I replaced the mount, no go. I replaced the coax, no go. I verified everything was grounded and checked all my cable runs. Changed the jumper on my swr meter. I was down to everything but the radio and this new antenna. The radio was old and cheap so if figured that had to be it. Bought a different radio. Same results. It was the brand new antenna. I stuck my old antenna on and got a swr reading of less than 1.5. Just remember just because it is new does not mean it is good.

OMG yes it is tuneable it's amazing , moron's can post a bad reviews but can't do a simple tune on this antenna. It is not a 3 foot cut to. 2 foot geeezzzz it's a 2 foot antenna you don't cut length with a saw. to tune you pull off the red cap grab the red copper wire that is just under plastic pull out small amount of wire cut wire put cap on test with swr meter. Out the box on my Jeep seen channel1 was 5 see on channel 40 it was 8 swr means antenna too long I removed cut 6" went down 2 swr points removed another 6" of wire see really close now so I cut another inch of wire . Now channel1 1.7 and channel 40 1.6. Pretty good so I was done took less than 5 minutes . Firestick has a screw on top for adjustable makes it easier but this antenna is great totally tuneable just BE CAREFUL not to cut too much wire little bit at a time then check awr you can tune making it too short if this happens you can make longer again by adding a spring or quick disconnect to antenna bottom then remove more wire as needed being careful
