The deluxe mandrel includes the live center saver assembly, which makes tightening up your pieces on the mandrel a snap....just bring up and tighten your tail stock and everything lines up tight and in place! Standard 7mm mandrel includes 4 bushings for standard twist pens...accepts all standard 7mm bushings for other pen kits. And the universal barrel trimmer includes the most common sizes of shafts - 7mm, 8mm, 3/8", and 10mm along with a 3/4" cutter.

Having never used on of these it was an interesting experience but overall a fruitful one. Kit seems very complete and made following some tutorials less about what i didnt have and how to build the skill. iv made a few pens at this point and im happy with the overall contruction

I like the kit but the 7mm drill bit was dull after 4 pens!

I love my lathe and turning wood, as you likely do if you're reading this. When I first got into pen making, the first mandrel I got was expensive and I had to buy the barrel trimmer separately. Those have gotten plenty of use, so it was time to update the gear. This set is every bit as nice as the name brand one I got years ago and it cost much less. Each piece is precision cut and are sized perfectly. Definitely helps make a nice pen. Recently been doing epoxy and burl pens and they look amazing. This set is a great addition to any turners shop.

This pen turning mandrel and deluxe barrel trimmer kit make a nice bundle. I have been pen turning for many years and this is just as good as mandrel I started with and it tool me to long to buy a barrel trimmer after that. But both are essential for beginners. The Morse taper (MT2) fits my lathe well and runs true. The 7mm drill bit will get one started with the basic started pens as well as the included bushings. This kit is a good value for any beginning pen turner.

I found my mandrel to be poorly made and it broke at the stem after only the third pen I made.

This mandrel is tightened by the tail stock, not by a nut on the mandrel. I find I have to constantly retighten my tail stock as the mandrel gets too loose. The slightest pressure with a chisel will stop the blank from turning. The mandrel spins inside the tubes. At first, I blamed it on my tail stock moving, but I checked it. It's not moving. I'd like to send it back, but I've turned three pens with it and they may not take it back.
