Update 3/4/2025: I noticed that since I have the black Grit Trap, it is hard to tell when my soapy water is actually dirty. Did a wash today and after filling the bucket with soap and fresh water I thought it looked dirty already but it was just the black Trap. Suggest getting any other color if possible.Original review:Just recently got a new 2025 van and had memories of scratching my brand new CR-V 20+ years ago due to a tiny rock in my soap bucket. I'm pretty amazed at the amount of products available now days so took to YT for suggestions of modern cleaning methods and saw this Grit Trap. Very interesting idea. The theory is the debris will pass through the holes and sit on the bottom of the bucket so you don't contaminate your wash media (towel, sponge, mitt)There are different patterns by different manufactures but based on some research I like the pattern of this style of Trap. Other patterns supposedly can allow some of the debris to come back above the trap and get caught in your mitt or towel. This kit includes two traps. Great if you want to use the 2 bucket system. One for fresh soap and one for rinsing the mitt before putting back into the fresh soap.I have a bunch of food grade 5 gallon buckets and found that the Grit Trap will fit loosely in some and fit slightly snug in others. So if you don't like the fit, try another bucket.I put the included ty-wrap on one Guard and not the other. Both ways worked fine for me since they don't sit tight in my bucket I wasn't worried that the trap would get stuck in the bottom of the bucket.

This grit guard does what it’s supposed to—it helps keep abrasive contaminants off my paint finish when washing my vehicle. However, it’s slightly too large for my 5-gallon buckets and doesn’t slide completely to the bottom, sitting about 2 inches above it.The tight fit may be intentional to keep dirt and debris further below the wash area, but I personally would have preferred it to sit flush with longer legs to raise it higher instead. To make removal easier in case it gets wedged, I used the included zip ties to create a loop in the center of the guard, which works well.Overall, for $15, it’s a decent buy. It does its job of keeping dirt and grime separate from the clean water—just be aware that it may not fit flush at the bottom of every bucket.

The 2 Pack 5 Gallon Car Wash Bucket Grit Trap Insert by X5MPLXPMX is an essential tool for anyone serious about car detailing. I used these grit trap inserts during a recent full car wash and was impressed by how effectively they kept the water clean. The inserts are designed to sit at the bottom of a 5-gallon bucket and separate dirt, debris, and grit from the washing water, preventing the grit from coming back onto your car’s surface. The heavy-duty design ensures durability, even with frequent use. The inserts feature a unique channeling system that allows dirt to settle at the bottom while keeping it from re-entering your wash mitt, cloths, or sponges. This helps reduce the risk of swirl marks and keeps your car’s paint safe. I noticed that the water stayed cleaner for longer, allowing for a more effective and efficient wash. For anyone who wants to keep their wash process as scratch-free as possible, this is a must-have accessory. Plus, the pack comes with two inserts, so you can have backups or use them for two separate buckets. A solid investment for detailing enthusiasts!

The review says to make sure you measure, and that's good advice. This thing is big. I love to take care of my cars and show them off at car shows/cars and coffee, and so that means a lot of time washing them and getting them to look their best. Having the right tools for the job makes all the difference. This large insert to catch the sand and tiny stones at the bottom of the wash bucket will definitely make it easy to contain the abrasive stuff at the bottom of the bucket and away from your car when youre washing up. Comes with two inserts so you can have a soapy bucket and a rinse bucket. Also comes with a nice little wash glove too which was a nice bonus. Came with two random zip ties too so maybe I need to examine it a little more and see if the two halves are supposed to zip tie together?

Not a fan of this grit guard. the holes aren't constantly sized, and I feel like they are a bit to small to allow a lot of contaminants to get through. The size doesn't fit a standard 5 gallon bucket either.

I got this 2 pack to use in my rinse and wash buckets that I use for my car wash. Also included in the package is a car wash mitt and a couple of ties. The grit trap is made of hard plastic. It was easy to attach the tie which helps pull the trap out from the bucket.I am using this in a regular household bucket with a smaller (~8â€) bottom diameter. This guard does not go all the way to the bottom and that’s not what I want either. The wide to small holes let funnel the dirt to the bottom of the bucket.I won’t be using the wash mitt for washing the car as I have a better one. These dirt guards should do for a quick wash in the garage especially during winter time when it is too cold to go through a pro car wash.

This is a smart design to help keep grit on the bottom of the bucket. They are pretty snug in the bottom of a standard 5 gallon bucket, but it's not a big deal. Make sure to put the zip ties in the center so you can lift them out. It was finally warm enough, after my hose thawed out, to give them a shot today. It's great that you get two so you can use the two-bucket method to rinse and soap a brush or mit. You could also stack them in one bucket for some extra precaution.
