We got these to cover where you could see old paint rings after replacing older fixtures with new, and I think I might use them for other light fixtures moving forward because I like the finished look and extra style they bring. Two of my photos show the same light with and without the ring, and one is a different light showing the ring closer up. These are not wood, more like a heavy foam or some other synthetic poly material. But they are sturdy and you don't have to be super careful or worry about damaging them when installing. I will likely purchase more of these as I move through other light fixture replacements in the future.

Did not have to install as the extender bracket holds the medallion in place -- no wobbling at all even with the fam running.Classic lines, no frills and an extra one as well.Love it, perfect for my need.

I have old ceilings and these are perfect for hiding imperfections where previous owners painted around the light fixtures instead of taking them down. You will probably need longer screws by about 1/2” that go through the mounting plate to accommodate for the added thickness.
