What is an electrolytic capacitor?

My train transformer blew a capacitor. It was discontinued unit. Bought these and replaced all the capacitors and it works like new now.

So much better to buy these for less than $20 than spend a small fortune to buy a new TV (and add more to our landfills)! Hubby somehow figured out it was the power board that made our LCD flatscreen TV stop turning on, so he took apart the TV, saw two capacitors on the power board didn't look right, so he replaced the bad capacitors with two of these new ones purchased here on Amazon. While it's early days yet, so far THE TV WORKS AGAIN! Not only did this save us a heap of money, but Hubby earned Major Street Cred :) While I personally would never attempt this sort of thing (it requires removing the two bad soldered capacitors from the power board, and then replacing them by soldering in their place two of these new capacitors), it definitely was worth it! Hope this is useful info for you :)

It is amazing how much smaller these 25 volt 3300µF capacitors are when compared to 1990's technology. The capacitor soldered into place quickly and brought the electronics item back to life. I did check the +/- tolerance but 20 percent is a fairly large spread. The 20 percent tolerance seems to be the norm for this size capacitor being sold on Amazon. One capacitor metered at 3188µF which is only 3.4 percent below. I will gladly update if this has any longevity issues.

What can you say about caps. They all worked well with in parameters did the job.. not bad for a bunch of electronic parts. I am pleased thanks fellows..
