Newer commercial vehicles have these by law, so whether replacing a defective one, or retrofitting an older vehicle with one is easy with these. They start to make noise at a lot less voltage and a 12 volts they are quite loud. I use them for water flood alarms in my basement which is susceptible to backed up sewers and sump pump failures. You won't sleep through this! The volume can be controlled somewhat by varying the voltage from about 6 volts to 24 which the sound getting louder progressively as the voltage rises from the initial start (can start any where from 4.7 -5.5 volts depending.). Highly recommended for any of the aforementioned purposes!
