Product Description

VHB tapes are suitable for bonding sealed wood, many plastics, composites and metal. Meets UL746C. After application, the bond strength will increase as the adhesive flows onto the surface. At room temperature, approximately 50% of the ultimate strength will be achieved after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours and 100% after 72 hours. In some cases, bond strength can be increased and ultimate bond strength can be achieved more quickly by exposure of the bond to elevated temperatures (e.g. 150°F [66°C] for 1 hour).

From the Manufacturer

3M&™ VHB™ Tape 4941 is a conformable, double-sided, pressure-sensitive, closed-cell acrylic foam tape with a paper liner, designed to permanently adhere one material to another while spreading the stress load across the entire length of the joint. Once materials are joined, the tape creates a strong bond that resists moisture, plasticizers and temperature extremes.

The Better Way to Bond
3M™ VHB™ Tape fits into grooves, around corners and through curves while offering a durable bond. The result is an extraordinarily strong tape that holds fast to a wide range of materials. Applications include bonding and sealing lenses over LED panels, bonding pre-painted metals, bonding and sealing plastic windows to pre-painted panels. 3M™ VHB™ Tape can enhance the appearance of finished goods by eliminating rivets and screws while providing immediate handling strength. In most cases, fastening with 3M™ VHB™ tape is a quicker process than drilling, fastening, or using liquid adhesive. 3M™ VHB™ tape can be used indoors or outdoors in a variety of applications, including window and door assembly, sign assembly, electronics, maintenance and dozens of other industrial applications.

Documented Reliability
3M™ VHB™ Tape 4941 provides cushioning, damping, and impact resistance. The tape is also plasticizer resistant and carries a UL listing, 746C. Qualification for this listing requires high-strength retention after extended exposure to high temperatures, humidity, cold, and cyclic conditions. The listing below details 3M™ VHB™ Tape 4941 with the UL 746C listing, and substrate combinations, as well as the maximum listed temperature for each combination.

Can Tape Really Replace Mechanical Fasteners?
Yes! 3M™ VHB™ Tape is a proven alternative to screws, rivets, welds and other forms of mechanical fasteners. Skyscrapers, cell phones, electronic highway signs, refrigerators, marine electronics, architectural windows, recreational vehicles and trailers all rely on 3M™ VHB™ tape for one or more steps in the assembly, mounting, fastening, and sealing process. When joining seams, 3M™ VHB™ tape helps create clean, smooth, water-resistant results without rows of rivet, fastener heads, or weld seams, which also allows for large-area graphic application with no need for additional smoothing to accommodate fastener head protrusions.

I purchased a led strip light and the double sided tape that came with the led suck. So I purchased the 3M 4941 VHB double sided tape, it bonds excellent with slightly porous surfaces. Very happy with this product.

I used this to secure a large acrylic (plastic) mirror to a piece of plywood. It worked perfectly. I went to their website and emailed 3M first to ask which of their VHB tapes I should use for these materials. They emailed back within 24 hours--very helpful. There are different types of VHB tapes for different materials. The tape is not very sticky right off the roll. The adhesion is a process. It's adhesion strengthens over 3 days once it's on the material you are adhering. As other reviewers have said, you need to give the bond 72 hours to sit unused for it to properly adhere. According to the 3M website, the adhesive on this tape actually " flows into the microscopic irregularities of the surface to form very strong bonds. "This is a small roll of tape, 5 yards doesn't go all that far. Excellent product.

Read the specs on the 3M website. This stuff is insane. It holds metal cladding onto the exterior of skyscrapers. It held our metal Maclocks Blade to the metal bottom of our $1,400 "thinnest Macbook Pro ever" until the Tim Cook approved butterfly keyboard exploded to class action lawsuits. Given that world economists predict artificial intelligence will take over 30 to 50 percent of all jobs, and the Silicon Valley techno-authoritarians are planning to milk the global depression overheating biodiversity collapse apocalypse they created with middle class consumers' help by rocketing to Mars in cyborg bodies that can survive 260 years until they can upload their brains to the AI quantum god computer and leave 99.99 percent of dying humanity in the arid dust, now more than ever is the time to stock your bugout kit with this tape so you can stick broken metal cyborg parts onto your head and watch it all go down

I build a 5 keg kegerator for home brew and needed to find a way to the the gas manifold in place. I could have drilled holes, but I really wanted to avoid the risk of puncturing a line and making the kegerator worthless. I bought a roll of this and cut down a length of 2x4. I covered one side of the 2x4 with this an attached to the top of the inside of the fridge side and screwed the manifold on to the 2x4. Worked like a champ until I accidentally pulled it loose. I could not reattached it (hence the loss of a star) so I had to toss what I had already used and reapply. When I tore it off the 2x4 it did bring some of the wood with it so it had definitely stuck well to that side. 2 months later it's hanging just fine with the weight of the manifold and the gas lines being tugged around in a 36-38 degree environment.

I don't know why some people are having problems with this tape. Modern Marvals did a skit on this tape, those guys know thier stuff. This VHB tape is super sticky after the cure time. I must admit, I was scepticle at first because the tape is not very sticky at first. I bought it to attach a battery powered LED light to my bathroom ceiling above the bath tub. The ceiling is tile that normal double sided tape would not stick to. After a few days I decided the light needed to be moved over a few inches. The light housing broke when I tryed to move it, which was made of fairly thick plastic. The tape would not let go of the broken piece which was still stuck to the tile. I had to put some wieght into it to get it off the ceiling. I Reinstalled another light with no failure. I have since used this tape for mounting other things without fail. Tip: I found you must prepare the surfaces that are being attached by using some rubbing alcohol, and let dry. Wipe clean any residue left behind and apply the tape, you have 3 days to remove the tape before it is stuck for good.

I bought this because of 3M and strong stickiness. However, I was very disappointed. The stickiness is not strong, comparable to a regular tape.

I was looking for some adhesive for my GoPro camera mounts after having to remove a few them from my motorcycle and motorcycle helmet (the original adhesive was ruined in the process of removal). This is either the exact same adhesive or a very similar adhesive to what comes on the GoPro sticky mounts. When you apply it just make sure it's around room temperature or warmer and that you clean both surfaces very well - this stuff holds just as well as the original go pro stuff, even though it's actually a little thinner. There are some youtube videos by 3M showing off their VHB stuff and it's pretty impressive - it actually acts more like a liquid when you go to deform it and then springs back into form. Pretty interesting stuff. While it's pretty expensive - it will definitely give you a ton of strength and hold on smooth surfaces. Just what I was looking for.

Wow! This stuff is STRONG!!!I'd never heard of VHB tape until I saw a show on the History (2) Channel. I think it was "Modern Marvels" that was all about sticky stuff. On the show it mentioned that this stuff (specifically this 3M brand) is actually used in building, using it to attach GLASS...those huge glass panels such as those on a skyscraper to the building. I was blown away thinking "they're using TAPE to hold up those HUGE glass panels?!?" I'm quite sure though that the VHB they use is MUCH wider than this! lolAnyway, we needed something to hold our large window valences (for 1" blinds) in place since the plastic clips aren't the easiest things to work with, especially since it's so hard to find the right ones. Well, we used small pieces of this double sided VHB tape and Voilà! They are stuck but good now!A tip...make sure to press and hold for a little bit. It will most definitely make short work of projects that require a strong double sided bond!
