This is a lovely piece of work, with reliable (as far as I can tell) 90 and 45 degree angles.I ordered it because it appeared to be simple, light, and the best part is the large overhang for what is being marked. This is not for heavy duty construction work, but more suited to woodworking where more accurate marking is appreciated. And, for what it is, it is very aesthetically pleasing! Please be advised, unless you speak Metric (or are willing to learn), which I do, this is not a device for you. This is aluminum, a stainless steel one would really rock!

This thing's awesome, maybe not for framing a house, but for joinery. Not too big, not too small. I keep finding new ways to use it. Even though it's metric I almost think they had SAE in mind when they designed it. The trick is in milling the wood down to 5/8x2 3/8, (I use the gauge while planing), then using this dimensional wood for your project. When you do this the inner "hole" of the 90 degree side of the gauge is just perfect for marking out a mortise and tendon without having to measure anything. When you add a pencil line to the 15mm it comes out to 5/8, works for me. Since most of the frame between inner and outer are based off 15mm and and the metric markings on the outside line up with the inside straight edges, finding center or if you want to lay out a double mortise - you can mark everything without moving the gauge. (One thing where metric works really well.) The 45 degree side is designed for making combo tendon/miters combo's easy. Just have to think about this thing as using the inner cutouts and outer edges together when using the proper sized dimensions. Absolutely every edge on this thing is useful if you size your wood. It marks out 45's and 90's well, too.

I use saddle type squares a lot in my woodworking endeavors, and recently misplaced my vintage saddle square and was in the market for a new one. For my needs, I rarely use this type of square to measure, I use it more to transfer lines / markings from one side of the piece to the adjacent side. Anyone who does woodworking understands, sometimes you want to transfer your line on top of the piece to the exact same location on the side... and these shine for that task. I also use these saddle type squares as a guide to start the cut with my Japanese dozukis or razor saws - that is another nice feature of these aluminum squares - they wrap the side of the piece as well as the top, and the aluminum will not damage the blade as readily, but you still have to be careful. This particular square is graduated in metric, not imperial - so make note of that if you are looking to buy if that matters to you. I am in the US, and 90% of the time require Imperial, but I don't use this sqaure for measuring / marking, I use it more for marking either 90 or 45 degree lines, and then transferring the line to the adjacent side.Overall, this square is high quality for the price paid. Note the Japanese Yen to US Dollar transfer rate is weak, and has been so for years, so that means you can get more for your money if you buy Japanese products. It would be hard to get similar quality at this price point for a Made in USA square, and that factored into my decision. This square is made of high grade aluminum, is lightweight, and has a very nice fit and finish. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with the overall quality, fit / finish, this is exemplary of the high Japanese quality you can get at a good price point.Recommended. Thanks for reading.

I like it. Not exactly sure what to do with it and it’s in metric but I’ll figure it out.... 1 thing though, it looks like an excellent tool for laying out mortise and tendon joints. Can’t wait for the ice and snow to melt to try it out. It’s only drawback (besides being metric) while the measure marks are engraved the numbers appear to be silkscreened on.

While building cabinets, I had to "continue" lines around to the next side of the doors. Using a regular combination square wasn't accurate enough, so a "saddle square" was needed. This one is a bit larger that I would like and the markings are metric. However, the markings aren't really needed. The square is very accurate. If working in a very tight space, the size may be an issue. Certainly, this was good value for the money.

A great design, but IT IS METRIC!!! The description does not state that it does not have fractional measurement. Still, the tool works great for transferring lines around the board.

love this miter guide. nice to use on sides of your project to easily transfer the line around the top to the side. it's made of aluminum so it's a bit on the lighter side. but well marked and easy to read. i do wish it was made with steel or a heavier gauge aluminum due to the shape. but love that it has both the 90 and 45 degree angles, as it is a mitre.

Handy marking tool. I checked square against a drafting triangle and was dead on. There was a very small burr on the outside corner that I removed with 1000g sandpaper on a flat stone, very easy fix. The machined surface made even contact so I know it is also true on plane both 90 and 45 degree sides. Well worth the small investment.
