I've played soccer since I was a kid and was even on a semi-pro team at age 17 and was slated to be on the US National Team before I got injured. (ty ty /bow) lol It was a long time ago... but I still have the muscle memory and was able to kick these things around pretty easily, like juggling a soccer ball or playing with a hacky sack. I can see how they would be trickier for the average non-soccer playing person, but you can definitely learn how to have fun with them if you keep practicing. I don't really 'need' to wear shoes when kicking them around, but I almost do...meaning that it almost sort of hurts when kicking them with just socks on, so I'd say that you should plan on wearing shoes when playing with them. They seem like a fair deal at the current $13 price, considering you get 5 of them, which will keep you in the game for a long time, even as they start to get abused and break over time. They look pretty cool too, and what interested me was that I had never seen anything like them before, which is odd to me because after watching all those videos on the product page it seems like they are something that have been around a while.

Bought this for 6&7 yr old. Figured it would aid in their soccer skills. I think they are too young to be able to do anything with them. I too tried to kick it but I wasn’t able to do anything. Returning but would probably be good for experienced older soccer player. Not for beginners. My kids gave up after only few tries.

These Jianzi are exactly what I need. They remind me of my childhood. The weights are just right for me. It is so much fun to kick it with my kids indoor or outside. The feathers quality is very good, they didn't fall at all. I like them.

Long ago, before I wrecked my knees, I was a very casual hacky sack player....occasionally...I had never heard of Chinese hacky sack with a feathered shuttlecock! I've tried kicking these around, but my skills don't exist...However, what grabbed my attention to order these was the big, colorful feathers-- I though: cat toys!!!!The cays love them, and the feathers are impressively strong and well connected to their bases.

This is a colorful set of 5 kick shuttlecocks. A very traditional Chinese toy/game for children - 8 and up. It's the kind of thing kids used to make themselves with real chicken feathers etc, and these actually also have a look of being made in some village home factory. They have very stiff feathers that don't flutter or bend when kicked, however they seem to be weighted ok with a soft plastic or rubber base (which should be easier on your feet than harder versions). There's a bunch of haphazard paper or plastic rings around the base which seem to serve the purpose of making shuffling noises or just for handicraft decoration. They don't bounce very high but if you kick hard enough they rise in the air sufficiently to flip back on the base so you can kick again. The idea is to keep it in the air for as long as you can using either foot or knee in various positions. For beginners best to wear high top shoes to provide a bigger base for easier catching when it lands. Important skill to learn is to kick straight up keeping it close because it's game over if you kick it away - unless there are several people playing together and you are kicking towards them (even then will still have to keep it up and over). Anyway one thinks of it as a kids game but it's great exercise for all ages. Good for balance, eye/feet coordination as well as overall flexibility. They don't look the most sturdy but hopefully will last a while.

Childhood memories, the shuttlecock is a little hard, but it feels good to kick, and the quality is very good.

These seemed like a great idea, kind of like a hacky sack but with feathers. In reality, they were trickier to keep going than expected, and the older grandkids lost interest pretty quickly. The quality is fine, and they’re lightweight with a good bounce, but getting the hang of kicking them around takes more skill than it looks. Maybe with more patience (or someone more coordinated), they’d be a hit, but for us, they ended up abandoned pretty fast. Fun in theory, not so much in practice.

I'm no expert in kick shuttlecock, but these seems ok to me.Apparently there are two types of shuttlecock; these are labeled "for competition" in Chinese. The feathers are stiff and retain their shape well. The bottom is rubber, unlike traditional ones that's made with paper. I guess this gives it more bounce. There is a stack of round discs at the bottom to weigh down the shuttlecock and maybe to make a sound when kicked. Sometimes the top discs would ride up the column. I can push it back down. Putting a rubber band there solves the problem.I've been kicking one of them for a few days and it has held up well. If your job requires sitting all day, you can take breaks to play with this. The hardest part is to kick it straight up and not away.
