Great for the surf. Not many moving parts and the wires release when reeling in. Retreval is real easy.After every other cast the wires get a little loose. Easy fix, just bend them a bit more and lock them in place. I'll have these for a while.

I purchase these weights for saltwater surf fishing. They worked well, holding the bottom during 3-4 foot waves. They did not release until I worked the rod to release them. The surf was rough, I had to adjust the "legs" once in a while to keep them locked in place. These worked much better than the ones I purchased from the local bait shop. The local ones would NOT release and made retrieval more difficult when I did not have a fish on.

I use these for several days surf fishing on eight and 10 foot rods and they seem to hold your bait well till the seas got about 4 feet. Then I would just suggest moving up to four or 5 ounce. It’s nice how the legs break away so that when you have to reel it in you don’t fight it all the way in. This was my first time to use this Sputnik. style weight and I’m confident I’ll be using these often in the future good priced decent quality.
