I got some 6 inch wafer lights and these mounting plates to set up the basement with proper lighting and a dimmer. These worked great for getting the lights exactly where I needed them installed without having to add a whole ceiling to the basement to mount the wafer LED lights.I found the following to be the tricky parts for installation:1. The screw-in mounting tracks on either side of the LED are spaced 6.5 inches apart, which means you have to measure 3 1/4 inches off center when spacing out the brackets - it made the mental math a little more difficult than if these were set, say, 6 inches apart.2. These really need to be mounted in the span between joists. Mounting the lights overlapping the joists themselves isn't really an option. So if you want to create rows of lights evenly spaced, it takes a bit of effort to identify what that spacing is so that every light is perfectly situated within the spans between joists.3. I used drywall screws, but you really need sheet metal screws to ensure a secure and un-warped install. Since the sheets are sort of thin, having a cone-shaped screw head pulled the sheets slightly to the side the screw was located, causing some minor warping. If you use flat-shaped screws, it shouldn't pull on the sheets.4. Warping risks - if you pull on the removable center discs too much while removing them, you run the risk of bending the rest of the bracket. The best way to remove them, I found, was using a narrow-nose pliers to gently, but firmly, wiggle the contact point of the removable disc section until it releases, then bend the entire disc section on the other two contact points until they release.

They do the job well of setting the light locations before drywall is up and add to the support of the fixture. Two minor issues to be aware of. There is no provisions for mounting the remote junction box for Canless fixtures, all others I’ve used have pre installed bolts. With these you’ll have to mount the box to the joist. The knock out holes are tougher to take out than need be, you’ll need to clip out with diagonal cutters or tin snips.I will purchase again as the value for the price is right on.

These are exactly what I needed to get a headstart on my electric work in my unfinished basement. It has every size cutout I could need, and it is easy to use.

I got these to make adding the lighting for a sauna I'm building easier. I was slightly surprised at the heavier-than-expected weight when I got the box. These plates are rigid, although not overly thick, which is good. They look exactly like they do in the photos and will save me time, as I am a semi-advanced DIY user (my wife might disagree here) but certainly not a pro user.

I don’t understand why these are so expensive. They are very thin. I also don’t see why they don’t come in sizes that fit 16†spaced joists. Had to cut these and it was super tedious.

As a contractor, I’ve used plenty of mounting plates, and these are some of the best. Durable, easy to install, and compatible with multiple sizes of lights. I’ll definitely be buying more for future projects.My one complaint is you need to remove the metal with sheers to fit your lighting to the correct size but this is also a benefit as they fit any size fixture.
