This heat band/blanket is great. It was easy to install and worked immediately. It is built out of robust materials that seem well put together and should last a very long time. The thermostat control is accurate. Simple to use.I'm operating this differently than advertised. Not sure I should disclose how I'm using it except that it works so well. The truth is, I have a large solvent tank for cleaning parts that works so much better if the solution is warm. I didn't want to install a submersible element since the grease, oil, rust, dirt, etc. that is cleaned off of parts could cause premature failure. After coming up with multiple complicated methods to heat the solvent, I decided to try this heating band. It works amazing! It heats up the solvent fast. I can leave it off for days and then heat up the tank in about 45 minutes. Having heated solvent works so much better. The heat band stays clean and is neatly out of the way. No concern about the solvent or anything I'm cleaning causing damage. And if I need to remove it for some reason, I can do it in minutes! It's perfect.I wholeheartedly recommend this heat band. Decent heater, but maybe use on a metal drum for maximum effectiveness. When attached, it does keep the ambient temp of the barrel a few degrees above ambient. This was used for keeping some liquids safe during a (rare) cold snap, and it did that job well. Around a 55 gallon drum it felt pretty secure. The adjustable thermostat feature is nice but I was a little worried to crank it up, to be honest. I used an extra cover over the exterior. Also nice that it's a standard three-prong grounded outlet. Satisfied all in all.

I got this for heating a rain barrel in my small greenhouse. I figured it would be cheaper than heating the air with a traditional greenhouse heater.Pros: it's definitely more efficient, as the water holds the heat and then acts as a heat sink which slowly heats the air in the greenhouse.Cons: it's not water resistant so I have to be very careful with the hose. Also as other reviews have noted, the dial to adjust the temp is really geared for higher temps. There is a big blank space beneath the lowest temp digit and "off", and since I'm shooting for about 80 degrees, I'm just guessing in that black space with the dial. Not a big deal, but a bit of missed functionality in case I did want fine tuning.

This drum heater does warm a drum. It's a little tricky stretching the springs - it could be better with velcro or some other system to secure the heater on the drum. It really stinks when you take it out of the box, but that seemed to dissipate after first use.It didn't work that well on a poly drum, but I also didn't really expect it to because the poly isn't going to transfer heat that well. I tried to thaw a poly drum that is frozen solid, and it didn't do that, but I also didn't think that it would - no deduction for that experiment - just be aware that this isn't going to work that way.It's not very wide (top to bottom), which does limit the heat transfer potential. The thermostat goes to 300F, but the description says not to go over 180F. It would be pretty scary to have a drum of anything that was 300F anyway.I think that this heater could keep a drum of water from freezing, and that's all I want it for. Other applications might be keeping diesel or lubricants warm in very cold weather. In any application, some kind of blanket around the drum would help a lot, but I do wonder if that would overheat the thermostat. I would expect this to work much better on a metal drum.

I wish I would have known this product existed a couple years ago when my water heater broke! The fact that this can be used in a few different ways. It's very helpful when you have an emergency situation. And on top of that, having its own thermostat is the absolute best feature about the entire thing! Do read the instructions. There are many safeguards in place for how to use properly, and many cautionary advisements that I would extremely advise being followed. This is a very well-built well-made item and that's always important when you're dealing with power, heat and liquid substances.

I purchased this to use around froth-pack insulation drums. The heating element works well, heating as it should and not getting too hot. Overall, I think you would not have any issues if you install this on a full sized drum. I am unsure if it would be able to heat a full drum to a temp that you will need quickly. Since it doesn't cover a lot of surface area of the drum. Maybe if you wrapped it with insulation after installation it would be fine.It works perfect for my application!
