About this item

  • Enlarging Existing Hole - As a home handyman and inventor, you occasionally have the need to enlarge holes to match other components. The Bridge/Construction Reamer Set makes it easy to get a smooth, rip-free reaming
  • The Bridge Reamer Bit Is Not A Drill - If you need to enlarge the hole to 1", FIRST there must be an existing hole, then expand to 1". It is used to align existing holes and enlarge small holes. It is better than drilling because you can control the final diameter more precisely, leaving a better hole shape and fewer burrs
  • Makes Easier Work for Steering Knuckle and Coxswain Arm - The tapered tip design allows the reamer bit to enter the overlapping holes of the outlet line so that the bolt holes are aligned. Tips: Please put some cutting oil before using the reamer
  • Round Handle for Portable Electric/Pneumatic Tools Holding System - a). three planes on the shaft - allows the drill chuck to safely hold the reamer at high torque without slipping b). the high-speed steel material c). the five-flute spiral - the chip removal is smooth
  • Widely Apply - Industrial application (bridge, construction, steel erection and automotive truck trailer industries) and Home application. Suitable for sheet metal, steel, alloy aluminum, brass, plastic, iron, nickel, copper, cast iron etc

The reamers did not hold up. One vents and the other ones got dull.

This is a nice set for the price. Some things good and some minor problems.Plusses:* Sizing all meets the specs (using a caliper).* 5 flute design to prolong life, keep the reamer centered, and provide a smooth finish.Minor Issues:* Some surface rust on shanks. Should have oiled or coated these.* The case is actually ok but the packing insert is a joke. It's soft foam with glued layers and all the glue failed. So, the bits just king of float in the case. Everything was packaged and shipped well. The problems is definitely the design of the foam insert and it unfortunately really takes away from the perceived value of this set.* I'd probably only use these for mild steel or less harder materials. So, like A36 steel would probably be the hardest thing I'd work with these bits without expecting to wear them out super quickly. I didn't try it but I don't see them working will with the very popular A572 (50 ksi) steel that is widely used today.* The machining of the flutes isn't super fine. You can see the machining pattern very easily and it's pretty coarse. You can actually see it in the listing pictures too. My presumption is this is an artifact from minimizing machining passes.Overall, it's hard to see these as for production / professional use. Probably more for occasional and one-off use.

I've found these tapered reamers to be very accurate which is not all that important to me since I'm using nominal sized hardware which are undersized anyways, so hardware fits about the same at if I was using a regular twist bit. However, I have come across a fantastic use in my shop. I like to use stepped bits to enlarge holes from a 3/16" pilot to whatever larger size I need. Step bits are fast, but they leave a tapered hole. I've found that these reamers are just the right size to remove the taper and leave a nicely finished hole. This works really well with thicker material, say 1/4" and up. Just make sure you go super slow and use lots of fluid. I use mostly mild steel like 1018 for my shop projects. Just fyi, these are not like typical chucking reamers which come in plus and minus sizes to achieve different fits, like a press fit and sliding fit, so just because you're using a reamer, don't expect nominal sized hardware to fit any better.
