It is recommended that you change to a loamy soil or clay soil for testing, so as to more effectively verify the accuracy of the tester!
2.What plants need is sunlight, so the light sensor is sensing sunlight. The meter reads “Dark” when you put it to the windows on a cloudy day or indoor. The pointer will not wiggle if it is a normal lighting light or on a cloudy day. You can test it again on a sunny day.

The importance of soil testing
Soil is the foundation for crops to survive and thrive. Healthy soil can promote the rooting of crops, fully absorb various nutrients and water in the soil, promote the stable growth of aboveground parts and roots of crops.
Values ranging from 0 to 500 are relatively dark: Prolonged exposure to this environment is not conducive to crop growth, and is only suitable for the growth of some forest like plants and shade loving crops.
Values of 500-2000 are moderate and suitable for the growth of most crops

Kind reminder
1、The soil must be of fine sand viscosity, fluffy and granular, with large gaps and poor conductivity, which cannot be tested, such as moss, coarse coconut bran, sand, gravel, etc.
2、When using, be careful not to insert the probe into stones or apply too much force, otherwise it may damage the electrode probe. After use, please clean it with clean water and dry it with a cloth.
3、Dry soil needs to be watered and softened before testing, as hard insertion can damage the probe.
4、For crops with high humidity requirements, it is recommended to insert the tester into the probe 1/2 position. For crops with low humidity requirements, such as succulent crops, it is recommended to insert the tester deeper into the soil. The specific depth of insertion into the soil is determined by the depth of the flowerpot (note: do not repeatedly insert or pull in the same place).
5、When testing soil fertility and pH value, please keep the soil not too dry or too wet, otherwise it will affect the testing value.
6、Handle with care, falling and knocking can cause inaccurate readings.
7、When testing, it is necessary to ensure that the soil can closely adhere to the probe and avoid approaching fertilizer particles in order for the test to be effective.
8、This instrument is only suitable for testing parameters in soil and cannot test liquids.
9、Cannot be inserted into the soil for a long time to avoid damaging the electrode probe.
10、This product should not be soaked in water, and should not be wiped with corrosive and soluble substances to avoid vibration, impact, compression, which may affect measurement or damage.
11、The same soil may have different detection values due to differences in detection location, depth, density, and humidity. Multiple measurements can be taken at different locations, and the average value can be taken as a reference.
12、The test values of this product are interval values and are not recommended for precision measurement.

This meter makes all the difference in helping to make my houseplants thrive. The large dial and the ability to bend it 90 degrees make it very easy to use especially when you have hanging plants. I like that in addition to metering the moisture of the soil that it also measures the light, fertility of the soil and the Ph. This tool has made a big difference in my watering of plants and keeping my plants healthy. Definitely a great value.

I absolutely love plants… Pretty much of any kind. Recently recently, I purchased 2 of those delicate orchid, flower/plants. They are beautiful, but you can overwater them or underwater them because they are very unpredictable and you can easily kill them if you’re not careful. I bought this plant reader to put in, my biggest orchid plant so that I would always know if it needed water or if it had enough water. It has worked awesome. The meter tells you all sorts of other measurements, including the amount of light and pH balance and other things… But I mostly just use it for the water Moisture reading. I have had this orchid for over a month and it is still beautiful and I always know when it needs water without having to stick my finger down and see if it’s moist. I am going to buy a few more of these for other plants in my home , especially for the ones that have a pot that is not clear so you can’t see the water inside. Excellent item! I will be buying more.

Best purchase this season. No more guessing if my plants and trees need water. I know this has other functions that I've yet to try but just based on the moisture function alone it's well worth the price. I have a Spanish lime tree that's in a large concrete pot. I felt like I was overwatering it because the top always look dry. The tree looks so much better now that I can accurately determine the moisture content of the soil below the surface.

Great concept, but the first one I received didn't work and I had to send it back. The second one came in and the batteries were dead and the display only partially works. Can't say I'd recommend it.***UPDATE*** without me making contact, the company made contact with me about my review and apologized for the problems that I incurred. They offered to send me a new one at no cost to me, of which I gladly accepted. Definitely 5 Stars for their customer service.

This is a photo of the instructions for the settings. B and C don’t correspondhere or non the meter. I have no idea which setting to use. I have also tried putting vinegar in soil and backing soda in soil expecting to see the needle go far to both ends of the spectrum. It did not. so I’m not sure I trust the ph setting which is in what was mostly interested. The light meter and moisture sensors are not that important to me for outdoor gardening. I really should have just bought a good ph meter. Poor choice by me. Hope this info helps.

My daughter and I have taken to gardening this spring, and have created a nice little raised garden bed. We've topped it off with high quality soil, planted various seeds and transplanted a few small plants from the local nursery. She (and I admittedly) are really invested in seeing this garden succeed. She is very curious about what's good for the plants and is determined to give them the best environment so they will grow "huge with so many vegetables."I snagged this meter to try and help us grow those huge and abundant vegetables. It hasn't helped much in that regard (yet), but it has proven to be a great teaching tool for helping my daughter understand plant growth. There are so many variables to getting an accurate reading that you're never really sure if you've done everything just right, so you're always in doubt of the reading. We usually take several readings and assume the average of them is close to being right.For the most part, and in the way we use it, I just do not trust most of the readings that it provides. If you're someone who is deliberate enough to ensure that everything is done just right every single time you use it, then maybe you'll have a different experience.

I liked the moisture level, pH, and fertility readings. Unfortunately it didn't last long because the sensor tip came off. I tried to fix it without success.
