ABACUS A9U Optical Probes are compatible with meters manufactured by Aclara, Itron, L+G, Sensus, Honeywell, Schneider, TransData, and many more. The ABACUS A9U offers advanced security of being made in America and using "virtual serial port drivers" obtained via the Windows 10 update feature.

ABACUS Driver Installation
In most cases, plugging in the Abacus Optical Probe in to the USB port of the computer will use the Windows Update feature to automatically retrieve the drivers and install them for use with the probe for Windows 10/11 and other Windows operating systems. Then navigate to Device Manager and Ports and check for an entry for “USB Serial Port”. If installed correctly the Drive Manufacturer (in the Properties, Driver tab) will show up as FTDI (the manufacturer of the USB chip and driver for the Probe) and the Probe can be used with the listed COM port. It may be possible to change the COM port assignment by accessing Properties, Port Settings tab, Advanced button, and COM Port Number entry, if a lower COM port number is desired for software compatibility.

The A9U-P-U04M-2A USB to Optical Interface meter cable by Abacus is made in the USA. This cable worked with an Ion 7330 meter via the optical port. I did try this cable on some of our older meters, but software issues were to blame, and not this cable. This is a short cable, so you will want a USB extension cord if using in the field. If your looking for a good made in USA optical cable for utility meters, this is a good choice.

The A9U cable is a 6ft cable as the description says, ignore the listing information which shows "Size: 10 FT" which is incorrect. The cable works as described and works without any special drivers, just the Windows 10 virtual serial port drivers.
