With fond memories of learning to play the Flutophone in early grade school, I wanted to try this very similar instrument. Studies show that learning a musical instrument is extremely beneficial to brain health. This SDREAM model is so much nicer quality than I had expected, really very good. It comes apart for cleaning, has a convenient cleaning rod that can hold a small cloth, and overall the plastic is hefty, nice to hold, smooth and shiny. You just want to pick it up and play with the sounds that you can make. It can certainly generate some volume, but is also very playable and lower volume. The instructions include fingering charts in both German and Baroque, and enough to get you going. There are of course infinite resources on the world wide web. This is such a low risk way to try an instrument. Fingering is so easy, even older arthritic hands can manage it as well as the youngsters. Even the color is soothing, lovely blue green aqua. Highly recommended.

My first musical instruction came from my third grade teacher - she taught us to play the Flutophone brand recorder in school. It was an incredible amount of fun, and my friends and I kept our instruments and our music and played throughout the summer. This recorder has an ok sound for a plastic instrument (nothing compared to my wooden Hohner, of course!) It's a bit on the shrill side, which is normal. Fingering is easy. The color is fun. Mine is a turquoise blue, but other colors are available. An instruction sheet is included, showing both German and Baroque fingering. Also included is a vinyl case and a cleaning rod. An instructional book is not included, but that's ok - there are some good ones out on the market.

This recorder turned out to be a delightful surprise. I originally ordered it so my daughter, who’s learning it in school, would have someone to practice with since we live in the country. Never did I expect to find myself playing one as an adult, but the skills are coming back to me, and it’s been a fun bonding experience. The quality feels solid, and the cleaning rod works perfectly with the one my daughter received from school. It’s been a joy to support her musical journey while rediscovering a bit of my own. A simple yet rewarding find!

...Well, not really a flute, but a soprano recorder. This instrument is fashioned from a blah-blue color (don’t care for it) ABS plastic. Overall, molding is good. The instrument features two friction joints that allow it to break down into three pieces for cleaning (a cleaning jag is included). The instrument is basically playable. I am sufficiently proficient with other instruments that I could pick this up and play some simple tunes after a few minutes worth of trial-and-error.My granddaughter, though a toddler, has apparent interest in music, so at the very least, this is an inexpensive and safe tool for that kind of learning/exploration.If your aspirations are higher, and you expect to perform with the London Symphony Orchestra, you may want to consider a better instrument. Intonation seems a little wonky, and low notes sometimes crack into dissonant overtones. I experimented with this and my hunch is that the lower joint leaks some air. Perhaps a dab of clear RTV (or maybe an O-ring) on the lower will resolve this. Then again, for a few bucks, what have you got to lose?

I never had one of my own as a child, now I can play around with this one and even my kids tried it out. There are plenty of tutorials online to learn. The color is really attractive, not the standard ivory colored plastic.Even our baby was able to try it out, I just taped shut the very bottom hole and used my fingers to cover the rest while she blew into it. The sound quality is average IMO. It will be plenty to learn and play with, I'm not serious about picking it up as a hobby. There's no case, so you'll need to figure that out. This is good if your kid wants to try it out, before investing in an expensive one.

All of the notes sound fine and dandy when played correctly. It sounds pretty much like the one I used to play in grade school. It's easy to take apart, it's easy to clean. I don't have any complaints with it. It's exactly what I expected it to be, which is a cheap, affordable recorder to play around with.
