Bore gauge sets are the most widely used measurement tools for inside measurement of cylindrical objects such as pipes and cylinders. Unlike transfer gauges (telescope gauge, small-hole gauge, beam gauge), the bore gauge does not require a second time measurement but a direct read when performing the measure, which ensured the accuracy. The bore gauge also goes deep enough by its long extension handle that bests the short reach problem of inside micrometers without compromising to the accuracy. Certainly, the three-point inside micrometer may fulfill all your needs and can be handled easily but it costs a lot more than bore gauges do. Therefore, why not bore gauges?

Assemble the bore gauge

  1. Attach the indicator to the joint by inserting the indicator's spindle into the joint;
  2. Lock the indicator with the screw when the needle of the indicator turns about 1 revolution;
  3. Remove the anvil locking nut and install wanted anvils, combination anvils or washers;
  4. Install the knurled locking nut tightly.

Measurement and Reading

EE20- Bore gauge measurement and reading

When measuring a hole, the correct diameter is reached when the indicator shows the minimum reading, which is the position A in figure A. Measure multiple times to make sure the accuracy of measurement by rotating the bore gauge.

Same as hole measurement, vertical sections' correct distance is also when the indicator shows the minimum reading as figure B shows. Also measure multiple times to make sure the result is accurate.

nice rig but the gauge counter arm, the small one, was in the wrong position, i had to open and fix it

Not too bad for the money. Seems to measure what the micrometer says it is.
