Was absorbed into a “weekend task” to fix an ancient toy merry-go-round. After spending the first day disassembling my patient, the failure was due to an overstressed pinion gear on the beginning of the drive assembly. The plastic gear had fractured and research on-line expressed this to be a common issue with these. One German commenter suggested using a metal gear instead. Once a set of jewelers files modified the new gear’s shaft size to a “press” fit, light hammer taps seated it in perfect alignment. Reassembly to “running” status was a joy!

I was able to get a broken antique toy working again with this.
