Aircraft landing gear struts are made from steel, even when most of the airframe is aluminum, because steel has better strength density: to equal the strength of a steel member a corresponding aluminum member must be larger, and while it may still be lighter than the steel because of its lower density, aluminum can't pack as much strength into a compact space. At least I think that's the story!I'm no aircraft engineer any more than I am a drummer, but this factoid immediately leapt to my mind when I unpacked the few components of this stool, as the frame is obviously made from steel, and some rather hefty pieces of steel at that, particularly the impressively heavy threaded-solid-steel post which looks capable of jacking up part of a house let alone a mere human musician. The rest of the frame seems heavy-duty enough, but I felt there was just the hint of play in the base, even after tightening all the oversized thumbscrews. That's the thing: having one or more over-designed components doesn't confer their rigidity on the entire structure; everything has to work together to clamp down every unnecessary degree of freedom. But heck—$40? Fuhgeddaboudit! We can assume this isn't the Porsche of drum stools at that price, but it seems more than up to the job and is an unbelievable value. If you want an eclectic, edgy look to your living space, you could put four of these around the dining table in all their industrial splendor.I agree with the reviewer who mentioned that the felt seat top seamed odd though—I'd have preferred smooth vinyl—and also the comment about retightening the clamp under the seat: I suggest taking a wrench to the long hexagonal nut when you're satisfied with the position, as it doesn't seem possible to tighten the thumbscrew enough to stop it from backing out.

The best part of this throne is its versatility when it comes to adjusting it to your liking. With so many points of adjustment, you're sure to find the right position that works for you. Its felt seat is very well cushioned and is comfortable to sit on. Of course, the added drumsticks are also a welcome gift though they naturally won't last long for their quality. This throne is amazing and highly recommend it to any drummers that are on a budget and want a quality throne!

I recently ordered the drum throne stool. My husband is always up and about and will periodically sit here and there. I hoped this stool would be more comfortable than getting down and up from on the floor. It comes in three pieces plus four drumsticks. It seems over built at first. We found that the stool seat is a bit wobbly despite all the wing nuts being turned tightly. It folds up nicely and works for our needs.

The felt top of the seat wasn't expected, and strikes me as strange, but it is soft and no great issue. Time will tell if it will last, and I have my doubts. As for the rest of the seat, it is comfortable and has a leather feel to it. The tripod stand is very sturdy and assembles easily as you would expect. The two sets of sticks are standard and seem to be of good quality. Great seat/stick set.

Really like this drum seat. If anything is deficient, it's that the seat itself is a bit on the small side? But not really, because it's comfortable. Like the fact that you can leave it on "swivel" by not tightening the middle hand-screw. That's cool, and much better than sliding on a smoother type surface. The drumsticks that came with it are normal and seem fine. The legs and setup on this are the key to it being a 5-star product, because they are very sturdy and have quality feet pads.

This is a good drum throne for someone 160lbs (73Kg), or less. The seat has a soft cover and is fairly firm with "give". There are well formed, non-marringfeet on the legs. The lower frame seems "middle weight" and has a bit of "play" until the whole assembly istightened. The seat post is very well done with good Acme threads, a nice, well knurled locking'nut that also has an inset seat which really helps with rigidity. The seat pad has a good clamp to secure it to the post.In my experience, this style of throne works best when set for height, used for a minute, or twoand then retightened. That sequence seems to hold the seat rigidly in position pretty well. They've also included 2 pair of drumsticks to get started.Hope this helps!

I'm no drummer but I like to bang on a practice pad, its good exercise to get my body moving and exercise my arms and hands after spending all day at a keyboard. Has actually helped relieve some pain keeping my wrists moving and the muscles loose. The chair is comfy. I've sat in it for a while at a time and its nice.
