3.5 stars rounded up to 4.I'm a total novice and I was excited to get this kit, even if it is advertised more for children.... It's nice and compact but also not tiny that I can make usable things in addition to embroidering or needle felting while watching TV.I know its beginner quality but I was impressed with the wood, there were no splinters or rough spots and it felt well-crafted, which isn't the norm for starter kits like this. For that I'm giving it 4 stars. The yarn feels and looks nice, but there's no indications of what it's made out of, I presume it's regular acrylic. It's soft and sturdy so I'm giving that 4 stars as well...Now, for the directions... As a total novice (but not a novice to many types of crafting including other cord arts), Immediately I knew something was missing as I had a lot of questions right away, because the details aren't there. I tied a knot and looped the embroidery floss included for the base of the weave, but the directions at the end weren't clear on how to secure the thread. The directions weren't clear on how wind the paddles like how much to put on there, or how to use them both. They simply said to gently lift the weave off when finished and I know that can't be as simple as that... How do you secure the knotted loops at the end, etc.I ended up weaving a few lines and putting it down and haven't picked it back up, because it annoyed me so much. I shouldn't have to look up a tutorial video or directions by someone else when this kit should include EVERYTHING necessary, which includes good clear instructions. Not just a general overview. There's a lot of details missing, for that I give it 2.5-3 stars, for an overall average of 4 stars. The quality of everything other than the instructions are great for a beginner kit, if you get this for yourself or a family member, plan on finding supplemental instructions to include as well.
