We have been using this now for four years, all winter long. It operates for hours on end in the winter time. It is very simple to use, easy to operate, and can humidify large areas. Our total upstairs area that we use it in is probably around 600-700 sq ft, a kitchen and living room with a fireplace. If you're doing much more than that, I'd suggest getting another one for other rooms. We use a filter all winter long. We run it non-stop for two weeks, then put it in the bathtub, rinse it out and clean it thoroughly. We spritz a little hydrogen peroxide bleach across the filter, let it set for a few min, then rinse that off good and crank it up again. Sometimes if we have a few days in a row where the humidity is up we'll allow the paper filter to dry out...put it in an empty tank, put a folded up piece of paper towel under the water level rod and turn it on. When you're running it on low it is very quiet...however, on very dry days you'll probably have to run it on medium or high to keep the humidity up. Then it's not so quiet, but it's the noise a fan makes. No regrets at all buying it, we'll get another one when this one finally packs it in.A few other notes:1) buy the recommended filters. Yes, they might be a little more, but they work well and if you're replacing them once a season not a big deal2) make sure you clean it out at least every two weeks, and do NOT let it just sit with water in it...either drain it or run it. We do not put any chemicals or vinegar in the water, but we just keep it out of the way where it can't get junk in it and clean it on schedule.3) make sure when you clean it you do use soap and warm water, and something (safe) to clean the filter. Be careful with the filter, as when it's wet you can damage it and have to use another one.4) I noticed several people commented on shoddy quality. It's all plastic except for the fan motor...but you get it for a bit over $110. We've had no mechanical or electrical problems with it, and its done the job we wanted it for and done it well.

After many years of use with a similar unit (Kenmore) that resembled the slightly smaller AIRCARE humidifier product, I took a chance on this larger unit and am glad I did. My old Kenmore unit failed when it developed a leak in the bottom tray caused by one of the wheel posts that fatigued the bottom tray over time and caused a crack. The AIRCARE 6 Gallon Humidifier has an identical wheel configuration so I opted not to install the wheels and instead put the AIRCARE 6 Gallon Humidifier on a heavy plastic tray (Amazon sells them) and that is working great. With the AIRCARE 6 Gallon Humidifier in a central location of our first floor (~1200 sq ft) the moisture output reaches ~4 gallons of output every 24 hours when run at low speed. This is sufficient to keep the first floor very comfortable without condensation on any windows. As expected, the output increases markedly at the mid and max fan speed settings but I have not found it necessary to use those speeds even on the coldest and driest days. I use a clean 1 gallon plastic jug to fill it each morning along with 1/2 cap of "Essick Bacteriostatic" treatement. The filter looks fine and still works great even after 6 weeks of use. No sign of any discoloration or scale build up in the bottom water tray at this time. The unit shuts down appropriately when the humidity reaches the setting I choose with the digital humidistat setting. The only caveat I would mention is that when FAN SPEED 2 (F2) is selected the motor makes an audible hum. This noise is not present at low speed (F1) or at high speed (F3) so it is obviously caused by whatever means they are using to control the motor speed. I have seen mention of this in other reviews so it does not really concern me as it appears to be "normal". At any rate, the AIRCARE Whole House 6 Gallon Humidifier is working great in our house and I am very pleased with how effectively it handles the first floor of the house. Highly recommended without hesitation.

Does the job. Has the capacity to keep the humidity up in the whole house when running at full speed. The humidistat works correctly, and the unit will cycle on and off to maintain the humidity where you set it. The fan sound is not quiet on speeds 2 or 3, but is actually very pleasant "white noise" so this is a plus, not a minus.Construction seems really fragile. The support piece for the float switch was defective (molded incorrectly.) I made an easy temp fix, and am ordering a replacement piece. Today I thought the motor was failing, as it the unit would only operate on speed 2. However, after I rebooted the unit (unplugged it, waited a few seconds, then plugged it back in) the motor works correctly again.

During cold months our heating system dries out the air. This is bad for our grand piano and bad for our skin and sinuses, so for 30 years we have humidified our house using several large console evaporative humidifiers. Now it's time to replace them. This 6-gallon AirCare unit is nicely designed and well engineered. It is also simple to operate, easy to fill and easy to clean in the spring. The fan, even at lowest speed, is a bit noisy, but tolerable. A humidistat regulates the output of moist air, maintaining stable humidity at the desired level. A large LED display tells you what you need to know. The wick is 100% paper with no plastic frame so it's easy to recycle. This is the best full-size humidifier I could find, and the price is right.

The humidity in my condo (~1100 sq-ft) goes down to about 12% in the winter, so I need a whole-home humidifier. I used the Aircare D46 last year and it was just OK. Not powerful enough for my whole house, but it got things up in the 30% range which at least wasn't awful. Filling up the containers was annoying though, so I decided to get a larger and more powerful unit that I could fill easily. I ended up settling on this one. I've used it for about 2 weeks, so I now have a good idea of how well it works.First off, filling this thing is so much easier than my last unit. I just take a pitcher filled with tap water, and dump it in. It's that easy and makes me wish I had bought a "top-fill" unit ages ago. As for the speed settings, low (1) is pretty quiet and seems to be able to keep my humidity level at around 37% which is good for my place. I fill the water daily, but I believe it would last about 2 days before going empty on this setting. The 2nd setting is a little useless as it's quite loud, so you may as well use the the setting (3) which is a little louder, but barely and works better. I personally set the humidity to 45%, and it's able to keep up as long as I keep it filled with water. I'd say the full tank lasts about 24hrs on this setting. It does turn off once it hits 45%, but it doesn't turn off very often, so I think 45% is somewhat maxing out it's capabilities for my home. If I set it to 50% it would likely always stay on, and maybe go up to 47%-ish. Anyways, I have it on (3) when I'm not in the same room, and (1) when I am. My humidity level is always between a healthy 35-45% as a result, which I am happy with.Overall my only complain is that it's white and doesn't fit my decor at all. I can live with that as long as it keep working though.

Works as it should very easy to set up once out of the box took our old house from 16% humidity up to 42% humidity within one day. Fan is a little noisy on high but seems to keep the humidity up at the lower settings.

Works as advertised. Raised the humidity 10% in two days in my old 1800 sq ft home. Its all plastic so a bit flimsy for the money. It could use a handle for moving it across rugs as it is hard to maneuver between rooms. ( fill it in kitchen ,run it in living room). Has a unnecessary overfill hole that slops water when you fill it to the full mark and try to move it.The fan on 1 or 2 is not to noisy but 3 is to loud to be in the same room for long. The 6 gallon fill is great as with the fan on high I still get a day between fills. Over all if you have rugs it can be a little awkward to move but I would buy it again. Setup is a breeze and I am quite happy with the overall operation of the unit. I'D say a good bang for your buck.

Works great as described ! During the winter when it was really dry like 15% humidity I needed to fill it up everyday, otherwise it can last up to a week. Quiet, multiple settings, easy to fill with a pail in one shot.
