We got this for my 5 year old to try. I remember doing these as a kid and thought she'd enjoy some easy needlepoint too. She definitely needs me to sit down and help her most of the time, but she is able to work on it alone for short amounts of time when she's just doing one color. This might be easier for a kid a year or two older to do more independently. The instructions are simple, but I don't think you'd need to know anything else to complete the project. Hours of cheap fun for a detail-oriented kiddo.

Excellent value kit, easy enough for kids with supervision. My 5 year old kept nagging me to let her have a turn when I was doing a cross stitch so I got her this kit. She can’t quite do it by herself (needs help getting the thread started and threading the needle) but she enjoys making stitches, and we will work together on our needlework for a few minutes like Jane Austen characters, which I love. It’s building some nice fine motor skills too.If I would suggest any improvement it would be to include 2 needles instead of just one in the kit - they are easy for kids to lose.

This was a lovely product...the colors were nice and the quality was good for the price.It is a Christmas present for my granddaughter and looks to be age appropriae. I recommend this to others

The needlepoint kit came with sufficient yarn, an OK needle, a sturdy pre-printed canvas, a nice frame for the end product, and clear instructions. Perfect for my 10-year-old grandson who wanted to learn about sewing and knitting.

Instructions not easy to follow. My granddaughter just finally stopped trying and just started doing her own thing. Needle hard to thread. Even I had a hard time with it.

I bought this as a gift for my 10-yr-old nephew, who is into other fiber crafts like crochet and knitting. Neither of us had tried needlepoint before, and he immediately started working on his kit. The instructions are easy to follow, the yarn comes in pre-cut lengths, it’s a large enough project to last a few days bt small enough that he won’t lose interest before finishing. And a great value for the money! Definitely recommend.

It has been a long winter and I bought this for my daughter to keep busy on a long snowy day! She loves it! the yarn is MORE than enough. She is almost finished with the project and we still have a whole bundle of yarn left! She has been working on it for about 1 week she loves taking her time. It a perfect needlepoint first item! I cant wait to buy her the other designs! Only downside is that I would love if they made a more "boy" design so my son can practice his fine motor skills. But that has no reflection on this great item!

I bought this for my 6 year old daughter for Christmas. For a beginner, this is a pretty cute and fun kit. The plastic canvas is color coded and you can use matching thread to complete the pattern. Instruction is included, but even without it, it is easy to work on.The reason of just 1 star is because (1) the plastic needle is too frimsy. It was easily bend, and (2) there were not enough thread to complete. We ran out of red and blue. My daughter was so disappointed when we realized we didn't have enough thread and cannot complete.FYI. I bought another ALEX needlepoint kit (different pattern) and that one didn't have enough thread either.
