Ames Sawtooth Edger is awesome! It is very well made, sharp, and cuts cleanly. Well worth the purchase. The footstep helps keep the cuts clean, even, and the same depth - very important to make quick work of your landscape design. The suggestion to water the area to soften the soil is a great suggestion. It makes your work much easier.

The product itself I believe is a good product . It’s very sturdy and beefy. I bought it cause I had spine surgery and I thought this would make it easier on my body . What I didn’t count on is that my PA soil is loaded with tons of Little Rock those first few inches, my small flat head shovel I normally use somehow just works it’s way past them , this doesn’t . And I added a step cause with the shovel I could just lift the edging of dirt into the wheel barrel … with the edger I have to get down n pick it up . Also the edger hit bigger pieces of mulch and it screws up the cut . If you got sod with Little Rock n no mulch to worry about I imagine it’s great . I’m hoping it’ll work better along my driveway where there is no mulch .

11-3-24 Update**** I am now completely grass free. I used this spade to lift and remove my entire gigantic front lawn and replaced it with useful flowers and natives for the pollinators. this is so much better and easier than using a shovel. You get a straight and uniform cut wherever you want.I do a lot of gardening, so I got this to make straight edge lines and borders. Use it with the “Ames†on the pole, pointing away from you, step on the spade, and rock back-and-forth/side to side. I used it for my last project which was lifting about 90 feet X 2 feet of turf. I just made my cuts with this, (which is the fun part) rocked it back-and-forth and then flipped it out and over easily.I tried it both with very dry lawn before it rained, and then a day after it rained. both were easy, just slightly better the day after it rained.I love how it makes a uniform depth cut .I wish I would have bought this a long time ago. Very sturdy and well made, not heavy.

Bought this to help edge around the paved areas of the driveway and patio. We have St. Augustine grass which puts out shoots that need to be cut to avoid growing up and across any borders. This worked very well and was easy to use. Lightweight but sturdy. Would definitely recommend. With the design, once use like a step on shovel, can rock the blade side to side as it is curved.

This is a great product for the price. We use it for cutting into sod to make walkways and circles around trees for mulch to give a flush look. Plenty of depth on the blade to cut sod, the serrated teeth cuts through the grass roots and small tree roots easily. I was originally using a shovel, but this works much quicker and cuts the roots easier. Foot pressure is enough for me to cut the sod, the T-handle would be used if you needed more leverage to push down through the lawn. The T-handle also reduces hand blisters vs using a regular shovel. Is a good tool to have in the shed for landscape work.

I’ve been using the weed whacker to trim the sides but takes so much time. I decided to use this and works great. I use my weight to cut the excess grass with ease. Great investment. Will probably use this every month just to keep the borders clean. Definitely worth the money.
