Even though the Firewire drive was self powered, this adaptor somehow drew so much current that the OS shut down all USB devices. Even with no other USB devices connected, a USB current warning occurred. The attached drive was never detected, and would not mount.Update: these are scam devices. There is no circuitry inside to translate the 2 different technologies, just wires connecting pins to pins, matching voltages that are different or out of polarity, or juicing voltage where it should not go. This creates danger, and could damage anything it is hooked up to.

These products are a scam! I researched it after my PC wouldn't recognize it and it is because it is not possible to use a firewire to USB adapter to transfer video. I just watched a YouTube video of these products being cut open and they contain no chips for communication Just glue and wires that are useless and can cause damage to your electronic devices.

This is my error but it didn’t work on my Mac. I should have got one specifically for Mac computers.

I tested it with a firewire-connected scanner that works on a computer that has a firewire board. The scanner is not recognized with this USB adapter.

Did not work. Apple iSight to Mac mini. Low power warning-USB port disabled. Powered usb hub or direct connect yielded the same unsuccessful results. 1 star.

Tried it on a MacBook Pro and a Surface Pro 7. Didn’t work. Returned it.
