This is too large and the wrong design for a stock 1997 civic lx. Also It has serrations which the stock one does not nor does it require a snap ringBeck/Arnley 101-3789 Ball Joint Is the correct one

These lower ball joints fit my 2000 Honda CRV with no problem. Didn't have to worry about grease fitting clearance as it had none. This was a problem with previous ball joints.
