I was paying $5 bucks a month for my rental modem from Optimum Online, which was ok, and a total of $60 bucks a year isnt too bad to rent.But they had to get greedy. They raised my rental to $10 bucks a month. That's when I was like "nope, ain't aying that."Its an Excellent idea to get your own modem. The 1602A works just the same way as the provided modem from Optimum.Excellent for the higher tier speeds, but of course will work for lower speed tiers as well.Item was indeed refurbished, with some slight scratches and marks and scuffs, but overall in good shape,I say, about B, to B minus in stock quality or so. So far, works well with no problems.

Purchased this in October 2024 for a recently widowed friend and it stopped working 3 months later. I contacted Seller and they instructed to unplug it for 15 mins. That didn't work. I contacted the manufacturer and they disclosed that they stopped making this modem YEARS AGO and don't even have information on it to help troubleshoot. This seller is selling OBSOLETE garbage that they do not stand behind. Of course, I can't return it bc it's outside Amazon's one month return window. BUYERS BEWARE!

Highly recommend this modem. Great money saver!I purchased this to replace my modem from Optimum after they raised their modem rental fee to $10.65 a month or $127.80 a year. This is ridiculous so I finally decided to purchase this modem. I installed it myself in less than 10 minutes. Pretty simple. Unplug your old modem and plug 3 things in - the coax cord, yellow cord, and power cord. Go to install.optimum.com and register it yourself. I didn't have to call them or anything - very easy! If I can self-install, anyone can. There were no directions included in the box but simple Youtube tutorials were enough for me to figure it out.I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to save money. This cost $58 and I used Amazon gift cards to make my out of pocket even lower. This modem will pay for itself in just a few months. Don't get stuck paying high fees from your cable company.

I got this modem to finally replace the one I rented from Optimum service provider. The modem came brand new seal from manufacture. Optimum service came to my house and tried to install it but couldn't. Optimum operator said the CMAC cannot be entered to registration system because modem could be stolen and not legit. At the time I was little disappointed and after Optimum left my house I called ARRIS and they told me there is nothing wrong with modem and everything checks out with no issue. Next day I called Optimum and different operator registered modem with no issue.It appears Optimum service provider/operators are trying to trick people (customers) to use their modem to collect rent. My suggestion: Do not trust your service provider! They are scammers!

When it works, it’s great. Almost everyday I have to unplug and reset. I’m not sure if it’s the unit or optimum cable butter that I’m not paying $10 per month. I just don’t know.

I tried twice to order First Device didn't even power up. Second Device I paid for what the description states as new, however I got a used unit...Didn't even bother plugging this one in, if I paid used price it would have been okay, Too bad I can't give lower than one star.
