I am a beginner to oil pastels so this is definitely not a professional opinion, but these are absolutely lovely! I have a set of Mungyo Art Gallery oil pastels that I like, but they’re a bit too hard and crumbly for my liking. I wanted a set of oil pastels that were soft enough to look like I had made a piece with oil paints and these Arrtx ones fit the bill! They leave a nice, painterly texture without very many crumbs and blend beautifully, I highly recommend these if you’re looking for softer pastels!

I've been using these soft oil pastels by Arrtx as accents on watercolor, gauche, and acrylic paints and they are perfect. I prefer to smooth most of my marks with a blending tool after application. They are so readily blendable you can make any shade of gray with the black & white pastels, impressive!Their consistency is perhaps like a cold stick of butter, solid, but readily transfers to the surface and will thicken if you repeat application or apply another color on top. The colors are pure and bright, nice intensity, fully opaque.I'm really enjoying experimenting with them on my paintings, may attempt a piece with only the pastels; I would definitely purchase again.

I love the softness and creaminess of the oil pastels and the colors are solid, bright, easy to blend and can be used on most papers. Great for any arts especially abstract. The pastels in the piece dry within hours and the artwork can be stored.

I have bought Paul Ruben Haiya oil pastels and their normal round pastels. Aartx is my favorite I'll be purchasing this moving forward with my pieces, and sennelier.

I love oil pastels. I own several brands ranging from the cheaper student grade to the outrageously expensive artist grade oil pastels. There is a lot of fun to be had with this very versatile medium and I find them to be criminally under-rated as an art medium unlike its more popular, chalkier cousin- soft pastels. These oil pastels from Arrtx are excellent considering their price point. They are not exactly cheap (currently listed at $49.99, time of review, for the full set of 72) but they are priced so much cheaper than the artist grade offerings that may break the bank. For instance a set of 72 of the Sennelier oil pastels will run you well over $200 (you may find it at a cheaper price IF you look around but good luck with that). The 72 set is beautifully packaged in an attractive cardboard box offering a wide range of good, saturated colours. The performance of these pastels are great. They are soft and creamy; the sticks are a good size, and the colours are very pigmented. They effortlessly stain your fingers like lipstick so there is no surprise here that they work beautifully on paper. They perform much better than the budget brands (which are usually harder with less pigment) and are on par with the more expensive artist grade oil pastels outside of the Senneliers which are the softest and truly feel like lipstick. I can't really find a negative with the performance. I tested these out in both good quality and cheaper paper, and of course, it performs better in good quality stock but oil pastels is one of the mediums that performs well across different surfaces. The layering is limited but this is typical of oil pastels and all of the techniques can be used with these with no problems. The only negative for me (and for most artists) is the lightfastness. There is no lightfast information here so we are to assume these, or the majority of the colours are not lightfast pigments. So despite these being labelled as "artist quality", if no lightfast information is included, they are usually classified as "student" or "scholastic" grade. Since these perform so well, I would classify these as the latter. The pigment/colour numbers and names are listed on the back of the box and also branded on the paper sleeve. So if you love oil pastels, I see no issues with these outside of the lightfastness. The colours are vibrant, the performance is excellent, and the 72 piece set offers a good assortment of gorgeous colours. And you can have so much fun with this medium, I always recommend it to all artists from beginners to seasoned professionals who have never given oil pastels the time of day.

I was a bit concerned when I saw that the box was a bit squashed. However, the oil pastels were still sealed and there was no damage inside. There are a few crumbs, but they spread with a swipe to blend. The pigment coverage is very good and a great range of colours. I feel like this will be a great kit for land and sea scapes. There are 72 colours including a black and a white. I couldn't see any information about lightfastness or pigment codes, but there are numbers and names. EG Warm Grey #3626.

These oil pastels are very pigmented and have a thick creaminess to them that make them blend and layer beautifully. Great if you like to use a little palette knife to cut little pieces of pastel off to place & form them into tight areas. Love them!

This pastel set has a marvelous selection of colors, with more purples than I'm used to seeing in a 72 set of colors. I think the only part it feels a bit off is the blues, there's quite a lot of very similar hues there, and I would have preferred to see some more blue-greens or deeper, darker blues for night skies. The pastels themselves are nice and soft for the most part, a few felt a bit dry compared to the others, but nothing too bad. They blend nicely and have good coverage when smoothing them out with a q-tip.
