This is used by my middle school bassoon player. I ordered it as a spare, but it has become her main reed. The sound quality is good and she hasn't had any trouble with it. It gets used 5 days a week during band class and once a week during lessons.

My bassoon player stated it was OK for practice, but not as good as ones we've purchase in our music shop or get hand made from his music teacher.

This handmade bassoon reed is a high quality reed. It came without any damage and is working perfectly. Not that it matters too much for this review, but having one in my favorite color is a fun bonus that makes me smile every time I see it.😄 If you’re in the market for a new bassoon reed, or want to buy a backup or two, look no farther, this is a great one. I have no problem recommending this reed! A+++ all the way.

For a reed I didn't make myself this is a winner. While it feels a bit reedy in the mouth, not excessively so it plays well. It is fairly well balanced. and reasonably in tune, the attack could be a bit lighter but acceptable. It has low resistance, and very good volume. The "crow" while not quite perfect is good. I think as it ages the reed will only improve a bit. It fits well on a number of bocals without reaming. I think if you aren't making your own reeds, this really is one to consider, or just have as an emergency spare. The tube it comes in is a bit large, and probably could fit a conta' reed just a well. It plays so well I was shocked at just how good it is.

I've played for about 40 years, at one time not a bad bassoonist, if I do say so. It's just necessary, to let you know I know reeds pretty well.Yes it's not exactly "handmade," but you know it isn't possible to turn out the number of custom-made reeds that would be bought if they were available. It's neatly made (as you can see) and I think it's well-priced.For that reason, I give this five stars. The disclaimer "for a good practice experience" is implied.And I would say it will get broken in and get even better.
