There are three reasons to use a heated bag for your ski boots. The first is so your boots are warm and cozy for a while at the start of your day, and the second is for drying them at the end of the day...maybe on the car ride down the hill. The last, and best, reason is to soften the shells of your boots so they aren't a struggle to get onto your feet. I've been using the Transpack heated boot bag for a few years. Unfortunately, the heating element has burned out on my twice. I decided to buy the Athlon version just to try something new. I typically get 20 - 25 ski days in each year, so I'd say my boot bag sees moderate to heavy use. I've been using the Athlon bag for about 6 weeks at this point. The greatest difference between these two designs is the Athlon has the boots oriented lying down on their side toe-to-cuff, while the Transpack (and most other bags) have the boots placed side-by-side as though they are sitting in your closet. At first, the Athlon design seemed strange, but it makes good sense from a heat transfer perspective. The pads are located top and bottom and will heat both of your boots uniformly on both sides, which is the most energy and time efficient solution. In contrast, the Transpack (and similar designs) only transfer conductive heat to one side of each boot. The result is a less uniform and slower warming process. It's worth noting I examined the heating pads for the Athlon and, having replaced the pad in the Transpack, have reasonably good knowledge of that design. The quality of the pads on the Athlon bag seem better than what came with the Transpack. At this point I can't speak to durability, but I'm optimistic based on the perception of quality at least. One aspect of the Athlon I don't like is, when carrying the bag by the handle, one of the boots is sole down and the other is cuff down. I'm just not fond of the idea the full weight of one boot and part of the weight of the other is bearing down on top of the liner. Both bags are made from comparable materials and are of similar production quality and storage utility. They will both accommodate a helmet well enough, and they both have plenty of stash pockets. The flatness of the Athlon bag makes it easier to stack the bags one on top of the other than the other bag configuration. If you're new to heated bags, I recommend buying yourself a cheap timer. I periodically forget to turn the bag off, which is almost certainly why my heating pads have periodically died.

The bag itself is great. Bomber construction but the timer on the heater makes it useless. It takes more than 90 mins to heat ski boots. I have a competitors model which is not nearly as nice in terms of construction but it doesn’t have a timer. This allows you to plug in the night before and your boots are a warm, buttery dream. If they ditch the timer this bag is 5 stars.

This bag has been a life saver this winter. With Covid we have to boot up outside. Without this bag I would not be able to get my boots on!!! It also warms gloves and face mask so they are warm and dry. Very happy with this purchase

Big con: Can't turn off the timer function and the longest time is 90 minutes.

Company stood by product when car plug needed replacement. Nice people to deal with. Company always making functional improvements such as zippered compartment for helmets. I've become a loyal Athalon supporter. Feel an obligation to tout a product that is good value because I rely on other Amazon reviewers.

Poor quality (2 zippers broke within 1 month). Poor customer service (no response to emails, finally had to call). Poor refund/exchange policy (no refunds, just exchange and I do not want this inferior quality product again). Still unsure whether Athalon will honor exchange. I do find a boot bag useful and will purchase a bag from another manufacturer. Even if exchanged bag is better quality, this bag is too heavy. This is partly b/c it is a heated bag.

I am disappointed in the fact that the "heated" portion of the bag does not meet expectations. I have had heated bags in the past and they would warm the boots up overnight and then the bag was sufficiently insulated to make the drive to hill ( 1.5hrs) without issue and I was putting on warm boots and pliable boots. This bag has a timer on the cord that limits it to only 90mins which is not enough and the settings of 1, 2, & 3 do not warm sufficiently. The bag as a boot bag is a good design and holds all my gear as I need it to, but it does not warm. I will be returning this bag as it is not performing the function I bought it for.
