Your cart is empty.K Custom Hybrid cymbals were designed with one of Japan's top drummers, Akira Jimbo. The Hybrid Ride's unlathed, buffed center provides defined stick attack and strong bell. Outside lathed edge increases spread and crashability. The 21" gives drummers more projection and overtones than the 20" size.

I've only had it for awhile, but I do dig this ride. I've had a few Zildjian rides in my day (Ping, Medium, Sweet) and now this Hybrid. It does feel like 2 rides in one. You and get a nice softer ride sound and a nice ping-y ride sound just depending on where you hit it. I will say I'm not in love with it's crash sound. I know ride cymbals are for riding, but I tend to play them a little crash-y. I've always liked the Medium Ride for the cash-y quality, even the Sweet ride too. If you're a crashy-rider, this is still good, but you might want to try one of the others I mentioned.

Having a dual finish ride area on the profile is an innovation. The traditional finish area has a slightly darker sound than the area surrounding the bell. This cymbal has a lot of wash regardless of which area you are playing on, so if you are expecting or desiring a defined ping type ride this will not work. It is wonderful for jazz and some forms of blues, as well as some forms of alternative rock. The bell is a nice feature. It's considered to me medium by Zildjian, but has a respectable amount of area and will cut through most amplified music. I love the chime-like, musical quality it projects. On the topic of projection, this cymbal has a fairly wide dynamic range. You can play it softly at the P or PP level, all the way to FFF. However, do be aware that this cymbal's wash increases with the sound level. It also crashes nicely, but the sustain is seemingly forever, so you need to choke it shortly after crashing it. The crash area is from the edge to about four inches in for best effects. If you strike it in that zone it will open fairly fast with a nice attack. One final note: Zildjian seems to have a magic formula for 21" cymbals. Every one I have tried in that size range has been easy to control and exhibited serious mojo. This one is no exception. To be honest it did not fit perfectly with my playing style or music genres, but it's a winning design with an interesting range of sounds you can coax from it. Definitely give it a try in person to see if it's a fit for your own style and music.

I purchased this cymbal about four years ago. I own an A custom brilliant, which, as many who've used it know, washes out within just a few seconds of average stick work. This K not only blows it out of the water being a great deal darker sounding, but the center being unlathed leaves for a much dryer sound if rode near the bell. all in all, it is incredible, and the only reason to not get this beaut would be if the washing out of your ride is desirable, or if you'd want a super dry sound with a k dry (which, if you didnt know, actually has dirt on it [and of course is completely unlathed]).these things are expensive, and id say that this is one cymbal i was super glad i bought.
