I got similar things in a kit to remove the lift cylinder from an office chair seat, but that leaves the base still attached. The instructions from that point involved sledgehammers, which no thanks, so I hunted for larger double split ring collars to fit the bigger end of the lifter, which these are. They don't have pushing screws like the kit, but a brake pad spreader works fine.
