Stem corer is I guess the best term for these simple kitchen tools. Some slice their strawberries and tomatoes holding onto the stem. Others want to remove the stem before slicing - especially if a slicing gadget is used instead of a paring knife. For those who want the stem removed, this simple small claw with handle works great. Only downside is it often gets lost in the cutlery drawer. So four help at least one to be found when you go looking. OR, give one to the person watching you core those stems who says, "Hey, that's pretty useful, where'd you get it?"

When I was in the food business, we used this tool to cut the core out of onions, tomatoes and strawberries. Unfortunately , these are a lot thinner than the ones we used 20 years ago and would bend when coring a union. They’re still effective with other cores. As for onions, I’ve had to cut the onion in half to core it without tool bending. I still recommend this ‘tomato shark’.
