Q: Can I steam sweet rice directly in the Panwa serving basket?

A: No, the Panwa basket is intended for storing and serving sticky rice, not for steaming or cooking. It is designed to keep sticky rice warm and fresh for longer periods.

Q: Will the food safe natural dye bleed through and color my sticky rice.

A: If you don't use the provided liners for the hot rice, it's possible that in the first few uses, the dye could bleed onto the outer edge of the rice. If you don't want to use a liner and want to prevent this, simply drop the basket into simmering water for a few minutes and the dye will bleed out. Caution as this will reduce the vibrancy of the colors as well.

Q: What should I do if the basket has an odor?

A: There is no such thing as bug free grasses and reeds, all reed materials can contain small harmless bugs. For export, we insure there are no harmful chemicals used in sterilizing the reeds, they are placed in a wood fired oven that heats the reeds and sterilizes the material. This process can sometimes leave the basket with a slight campfire like smell. If you experience this, place the basket outdoors and let it air, the wood smoke scent will decline and disappear.

Q: How do I clean the Panwa sticky rice basket?

A: In Thailand most everyone now uses a plastic bag liner to make clean up simple. Up in the northern country many people still fill the baskets without the liner, in this case just give it a quick rinse with water and then let it air dry in the sunlight or simply wipe it with a damp cloth and let it dry.

Q: How do I know this product is authentic Thai handmade?

A: There are a number of products misrepresenting Thailand as the products origin when is’s actually mass produced in a factory outside Thailand. Thailand is my real home. Since I am moving back there soon, I wanted to take one of these with me simply for saving time once I am there buying one there. They are meant to use with sticky rice to keep it warm and are fun to use and quite useful....they are attractive with their Thai designs and you can find them also in Thailand, and if you are not going there anytime soon, they will bring a little bit of Thailand into your homes wherever you live.

Very well made and nicely packaged. The basket was wrapped in some very pretty type of paper with real flower petals and real bamboo leaves kind of meshed into the paper. Really nice touch! My Sister is going to frame this and hang it on the wall. This basket is larger than the last one we purchased from another seller and this one is of much higher quality. I am in love with my sticky rice serving basket. I see where some reviews mention the dye end up on the rice when the rice is inserted into the basket. However, this is what the liners are for. Also, it does mention to soak your basket before use if you decide not to use the liners that were Provided.Overall, I am beyond pleased with the look and use of my sticky rice basket. Buy one!

The basket precisely matches the photos and measurements in the description. It's a great size for a shared meal and seems solidly woven. The packaging was a wonderful surprise. The basket came neatly packed with beautiful recycled paper and pressed flowers and leaves. I'm thrilled to give this as a gift. If I need another serving basket, I'll most likely try to buy another one from this company!
