With the wall charger that came with a UV-5R, there is a red light that is on when the charger is plugged in and there is a light on the charging base that is green with no battery in it, red when charging, then green again when charging is finished. Finish voltage is 8.3V as reported by the radio.When I use this cable with the same charge base, the light on the cable goes red when the battery is inserted in the charge base and turns green when the charge is finished. The finish voltage in the battery is 8.4V, slightly higher than when the wall charger is used. The light on the charging base stays red, even after the light on the cable goes green.The wall charger output to the base is stated to be 10vdc at half an amp. This cord has a stated output of 9vdc at a full amp. I did not take measurements with a meter.Will the higher final charge voltage give me longer run time? Will it decrease battery life? I don't know. Often, Lithium batteries suffer long term damage from over charging. I don't know the limits of these batteries. The ability to charge in the car is a big improvement. I can always take it off the charger before the light on the cable goes green, if potential overcharging is a significant concern.This plugs in the back of the charging bases that use the little transformer to plug into the wall socket. It does not work with the charge bases that plug into the wall directly. It does not plug into the oversized batteries with the round charge port in the side. The plug on this cable is to large in diameter to fit in the charge ports on the batteries. It only fits the charge bases that the radios or batteries sit in.

USB is ubiquitous. Anything that needs battery power can be supported by USB. My Verio IQ diabetic testing meter now runs on a USB charge. My favorite flashlights are now recharged by USB, saving the cost of batteries.With Power Banks falling in price while rising rapidly in capacity and efficiency, USB is a superior back up power source. These inexpensive cables WORK WELL.Yes, they do require a charging base, rather than a direct plug in the radio, but that's still very efficient. The base is rather small and light weight. Excellent addition to anyone's "COMMO GO-BAG". Recommended.

This is well made and light weight. A red light shows it's charging. When it's green you're charged up..You don't need a bulky charger with this cable...just plug into a USB charger..I bought another one after I received the first one. They're inexpensive.

I was concerned the voltage on this would be too high (from previous similar products) but its exactly 8.4volts DC - just what our Baofeng's expect. Its stable, about the right length.It has an LED inside its semi-transparent shell - a nice tough.Recommended if you want to charge your Baofeng from USB such as in a car.

The ac adapter for my baofeng failed. This uses a standard USB brick to charge it. Perfect.

I bought this cable to charge a Baofeng UV-R5 and GT-3TP when boating - and also to do away with the original, unsafe, mains twin-core cable supplied with the charging docks. It certainly works, although takes longer than using a mains charger, which is to be expected. Very pleased with this purchase - recommended.
