I'm so bad at trumpet, especially when I take 6 months off, it's hard to tell what horrible sounds I'm making vs this piccolo. I have no idea what the throat size is; I have a Chinese slide trumpet with a roughly 0.0" throat that's brassy and spanky and harsh and it's the only horn I'd play. I can't even tell if I can get a single spank out of this piccolo. It ships with a Bb leadpipe and has an A in the case. The pinky hook displeases my pinky and I got this for the car anyway so I'm getting or rigging a grip to play one handed. In the meantime I'm putting heat shrink tubing on the hook. And, false modesty aside, I have large hands and I stretch to get my pinky in there.I'm reasonably convinced your backbrain does most of the work for you in learning anything; once I could get a sound out of my MP my lips were impatient to try the upper register. I did find it easier, possibly because they're natural to the piccolo vs trumpet, more handles on the notes so wider targets. I'm undoubtedly not restricting my breath vs trumpet because I am getting backpressure and seeing stars. But I've been smoking the nonfilters since I was 8, so I see stars getting out of bed.Ultimately I sound like I did when I first started playing; I bought what would be my 5th pocket as a backup for this (pockets are easy to lose) and I'm returning that unopened, keeping the piccolo. Shouldn't be too many more years before I can not annoy myself with it.I also have a titanium ~0.000001mm-depth cup, so apparently I enjoy challenges. Only MP I use now. The included 7C made me nauseous, but that might just be me.As stated by others, get to know your valve caps and how they behave -- slowly. Forcing oil into the lead pipe cinch helps immensely. I've got slide grease coming so that's probably going to line all threads on this thing.

First,Google: “Playing Piccolo Trumpet”Sounding an octave up doesn’t mean a high C sound is miraculously easy.Comments on this horn:Sai Musical India brand on bell:Cosmetically good.Tolerance of valve caps is loose = cross threading is likely if not aware.Tuning slides not well parallel = tough to get back in.No mute as advertised.Magenta color trim is not shown and case is scuffed up and dirty.Intonation questionable for group play.$100 for a full size new trumpet SAI sells or a pocket trumpet novelty is really cheap.Better quality used USA made student horns are available at good prices.Used Piccolo Trumpets on the other hand are not available close to $100.So $100 for this as a novelty is Ok.India can reverse engineer better than this and they need to step up the quality control.I bought this listed as Free Returns.I am keeping it.

Shipping was fast. Price was good. Instrument itself is garbage. It sounds like a muted trumpet/kazzoo type sound. Not very free-blowing. Mouthpiece that it comes with is unusable. Tried with several other trumpet mouthpieces and it's really difficult (impossible?) to play higher than fourth space C which is actually C above the staff on a standard Bb trumpet. The leadpipes aren't perfectly round, which makes it hard to set a standard Bach mouthpiece into it securely. Springs in the valves are really stiff/noisy. Edit: Tried to return it and the international shipping cost was more than the item... Amazon customer service was not able to resolve this issue without having to pay shipping costs upfront.

Seems like a toy. I didn't expect the best instrument, but I did expect to be able to play it. I play trumpet and could not get a sound out of this instrument.
