These are great for starting, only issue is they can not be adjusted easily.

When they say economy...they mean economy! These tongs will not hold a spike well at all. They will need to be reworked in your forge if you buy these before you can comfortably use them.

If you are a blacksmith and make railroad spike Knives. This is a must have for you. I can say it is very well made.

I will be able to make it work but will need to spend lots of time finishing it. Its a good thing I have a forge and an anvil.

The tongs did not hold a railroad spike straight out of the box. The jaws were too close together and had to be heated and opened up in order to accept the rail road spike. The reigns were also very uncomfortable straight out of the box. The reigns come rectangular and the corners need to be knocked down before they can be used comfortably. Even after these small adjustments were made, the tongs themselves are still not great. Not worth the money in my opinion, and I do regret buying them.

Tongs arrived ahead of schedule but had to bend the jaws in order to use them. The 2 fingers were bent in so far you couldn't grab anything with them. Once bent back they work great. Would have been a 5 star rating if not for this problem

They deform so badly from gripping the spike that I need to hammer down the holding prongs and tighten the rivet after every heat cycle. You spend as much time trying to keep your tongs functional as you do actually crafting your spike.
