I used to keep a book together that was falling apart. It worked very well; adhesion and durability were very good and long lasting. It is a bit ugly but what can you expect from tape.

This TSSART tape, marketed for book repair, is something like a specialized and refined duct tape. If you hold it up to the light, you can see it has a fabric texture. The seller states that the tape is made of “Polyethylene Material with Matte Rubbing Craft”; I have no idea what “matte rubbing craft” could be. The tape is thin, appears to be strong and does not easily stretch. The seller makes no claim to it being acid-free or archival. And that is my concern. If you are repairing a valuable book, I suggest you look elsewhere for a book repair tape. I recommend TALAS or The Library Store for archival tapes. They do cost a bit more, but take into account the value of whatever you are repairing. This tape may be fine for repairing run-of-the-mill publications, but who knows whether they will increase in value years from now? Also consider that there are transparent acid-free mending tapes on the market, so you do not have to put a stark white or black tape on book covers and spines. My own preference for book repairs is to use bookcloth or thin handmade (or other high quality) paper with a flexible PVA glue. However, there is more work and skill involved.I have been using TSSART’s Neutral pH Craft Glue (also sold on Amazon), and I am very happy with it. I recommend it.

Taped 2 thick for extra support and top layer fell off. Will not stick to itself for more than a day or two. Hoping it will stay on the book.

I have big books that I buy second hand and sometimes the front cover or the back cover is coming apart and with this tape I can secure it back to its place. The tape also feels very nice.
